reason we have serious interest in shaw this january is simple.. if we dont sign him then we have no chance in summer with chelsea and united sniffing around.

im sure chelsea with be chasing strikers this window so money might be seen better spent elsewhere but shaw is a must for us, ticks all the boxes. its just whether he wants to leave southampton or wait for chelsea to come in. who knows. only those close to him really know, rest is just guess work.

I would guess that Cole is off after this year or next. They are probably going to sign Rodriguez, unfortunately.

dont care who chelsea are after or what that scumbag cole does but what i do know about them is they sign players to stop them going elsewhere..thats obvious after latest move in willian so im sure if shaw fancies a move the chelsea know about it..

lets hope that if he is open to move spurs and people in charge of spurs can make move while chelsea looking to spend elsewhere

I'm starting to think that we might need to sign CB in January as Kaboul doesn't look fit so soon and Dawson is becoming really too slow. I like Fabian Schar from Basel.

I would be a little unhappy if we spent 20m on shaw when we have Danny rose. I think he looked quality before he got injured, had a great season on loan last year. We obviously need back up for left back. But if shaw came he would want to start, so rose would then want to leave, back to square 1 again. We should be looking at cheaper options and spending the money on a forward who can score from his own trickery.

AVB likes to rotate, I'm sure Rose and a new LB would get time. That being said, I would like quality depth, and to purchase an upgrade on Rose. Shaw is one of those possible upgrades.

having Shaw and Rose seems excessive to me. It would be impossible to keep both happy and both would be wanting/deserving starting spots. It would ruin at least one of them's developing

Shaw would be great, but Id prefer Davies. True, he is a little older, but as strong a player and probably a lot cheaper. Also seems more realistic to want to sign...

For the money it would take to land shaw and the constant fear of him possibly doing a Judas to our other london rivals, I'd rather splash the cash on filipe luis from atleti.

I read speculation a couple of weeks ago (I can't remember where) that Shaw's people thought Tottenham gave him a better chance to progress than Chelsea. Where they can spend millions and sit you randomly, Tottenham is kind of committed to keeping you playing and developing. Would be another example of a player using us as a stepping stone.

Yes, and they have Bertrand and Van Aanholt, but that probably won't stop them from pursuing him.

We should pretend to be trying to sign Shaw so that Chelsea step in and sign him, then we buy Rodriguez (or Sorg, or Alex Sandro, or etc). I'd be pretty confident that they would try to prevent us from signing him anyway if we showed interest.

Agree, I would rather sign Rodriguez than Shaw. IMO Rodriguez is the better allround LB. He would be cheaper too.

I've only seen links in the Mirror, Metro, Express & Talksport. All have reputations as bullshit papers/websites. Is anywhere reliable reporting it?

Doesn't mean they aren't after him of corse.

Recent quotes from some sources have said that he and Wolfsburg know about interest from some "big" clubs, but he stated that he is trying to focus on his football, which he specifically stated as being at Wolfsburg for the time being.

Soo are you saying you would prefer Rodgers as manager over AVB because I wouldn't! Rodgers is soo 1 dimentional he doesn't have any plan B Plus hes a complete C*ck aswell!

Where the fuck did i say that i would prefer Rodgers?

I am not so insular that i don't recognise where a manager has taken a poor football team and made them into a potential CL qualifying club by playing attractive, attacking football.

By saying Rodgers is one dimensional and doesn't have a plan B, is more closer our own Messiah than you can ever imagine, and proves just how blinkered a view you have.

Sunday will be a true test for both managers to see which one has developed their team, tactics, and will give us all a view of the progress that AVB has made. Both managers have had a couple of seasons to develope their ideas and put them into action.

I for one can't wait.
