and i would still rather have Defoe as a target man over both

Really?! :-|

In any case, I'm just trying to bring a bit of perspective on the deal rather than comparing Saha to Leandro, Rossi or whoever we've been linked with of late which of course is not the case.

I think Saha is a good player

No not someone we could have as our first choice, but he is a decent guy to have on the bench and playing in rotation from time to time.

As long as he is just a quick fix until we make some big moves in the summer I will not be too disappointed with him or Roddellga (for same reason)

Put it this way, Pav's time seems to have run its course with us so I'd rather we bring someone in for him than no one and just limited our options (saying that I'd have probably equally have taken Keano back as Saha)

Reports on Goal that PSG are on the verge of signing Leandro for €30million. That would be a devastating end to deadline day.

So be it. We were never going pay that amount for a player that is unproven in Europe and financially, we were never going to compete favourably with PSG.

Yes we may rue missing out on him, or he could well be the new Jo!

Let's move on and get our sanity back.

I'm in the Saha > Pav camp and would consider it an upgrade but another factor is potentially we could probably end up paying Saha less than Pav so we could end up with an upgrade (albeit slight) but save ourselves say 20k towards mod's payrise.

just conjecture but would be good if anywhere near realistic.

Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune has revealed he turned down an "enormous" bid from Tottenham for striker Loic Remy.

This could all (hopefully) mean we have a lot of confidence in Coulibaly for the future. Stop-gaps for now, Leandro, Remy, & Coulibaly in the future?

Saha would be a good buy, Pav is dreadful, if we need to see a game out and adebayor is tiring i'd prefer cudicini come on, or for us to drop to 10 men than see pav come on, wheres Gary Doherty when you need him

If we only sign Saha and send Pienaar back to Everton on loan then I'll be flabbergasted ...

Why are we contemplating loaning out our only cover for Bale & Lennon and not bringing in a replacement?

Kranjcar isn't good enough - legs in cement.

I agree with smudger. Saha is not the man to win us the league but as a direct replacement for Pav on the bench its certainly not a step down. truth is we will probably see about as much of him as we did Eider, not because he's injured but because he's 4th choice striker. Anyway only another 30 minutes of this madness before i head up to the lane - where my phone seems to lose all connection to the world from about bruce grove until after the game so i can forget all this nonsense until i do the SSN round up when i get home. Enjoy peeps.

We could have kept Kane as a backup striker instead of buying a old workhorse.

How is he doing at Millwall btw?

Important for his development that he plays though, he wouldn't be getting the game time as back up for us that hopefully he will get at Millwall and that should aid his development more than sitting on our bench and never playing

Everyone?

I'm still not happy with Pav, Gio and Bassong being in it!

The problem is the significancy of the upgrades, Saha, while better than Pav isn't really anything to shout about really...oh yeah on loan btw. Thrifty again. Hoilett running out of contract or maybe Krasic on a loan, Levy must sky+ Super Scrimpers.

It's this constant brinkmanship, looking for good players cheap while trying to sell poor ones for a profit. Last minute again by the way, what were the odds on that?

Jenas, Bentley, Pav, Gio, Bassong, Corluka all not good enough and have either been linked away or already loaned, probably because no one will pay the crazy prices we want for them.

I've got to agree with this. He's a good premier league player who I always think has got a goal in him and can bring others into play.

And more importantly we can start singing ABBA at The Lane "Knowing me,knowing you Saha" (can't remember who suggested that earlier, but I love it!)

Problem is, potential suitors know these players are very much on the fringe or unwanted and that we will try to recoup as much as we can for them without being bent over and shafted.

Bentley, for me, will always represent our worst ever bit of business and I think that rankles Levy considerably!
