Shelfy I think you're picking the positives as best you can but you can't ignore what we've been left with. We all expected Modric to go but not VDV too, not until recently and we thought we'd be bringing in one creative at least for these 2 top drawer players leaving. We really are quite a different team now, and honestly I don't think we're a better one. Yeah we'll do ok, yeah AVB will get the best out of them hopefully, but the hearts been ripped out of our team a bit. Every time we get so close we take a smack in the teeth and it's hugely frustrating, especially considering we've spent fuck all net this window (I think we've made a small profit).

I understand Mouts was expensive and difficult but what about contingencies? Similar but cheaper players who could've done a job in midfield on the ball? Arsenal compromised on Arteta for example but he's decent and a similar player would've helped us. In AVB's system we require a ball playing midfielder such as he had at Porto and as he wanted at Chelsea - we haven't got one unless you count Dembele but he's a very different player who likes to dribble.

I'm hoping AVB gets the best out of what he has as we all do. But whenever I see clips of the team from last season I'm gonna be a bit sad because we won't see football like it for the forseeable future and maybe not again for some time.

I agree Steve. However I have a feeling, which is why I was so delighted with the signing of Dembele, that we may be alright regardless. Obviously Moutinho would of been perfect, but we've got to get on with it now.

But, and its a big but, I think there could be serious goals in this side - if AVB lines up the way I'm thinking and Dembele can get on the ball in those positions and pick the cultured passes - which I'm convinced he can do, we might just be pretty flipping good.

tbf, I'd imagine Levy doesn't personally take care of all the financial back-ground work on potential transfers. I'm sure he has some little Oxbridge minion to do that for him. Whoever that minion is, his head needs to roll

I bet he has a Mini-Me. I hope he's fed to Fat Bastard.

It is fairly amateur especially as AVB will have known about it and will have told Levy about it. I think thats why AVB was talking about the whole deal being difficult. But thats why it required proper planning and more than a day of negotiations. Levy fuck up and yes the man is not beyond criticism.

Overall good window just three glaring gaps still to be sorted out - cover on the wings, a proper back up striker and a creative playmaker.

Cover on the wings - Dempsey
Back up striker - Dempsey
Playmaker - Dembele

anyone think that maybe its not our fault, maybe porto fucked us?

It's been said many times but only because it's true: don't leave your most important deal until the last minute. Beacuse things can go wrong. And did.

I know we need to do our upmost to get the best deal, but sometimes you need to pay a little bit more to ensure that your new manager gets the players he thinks will transform the team. If that means not buying a Siggurdson or a Dembele in order to afford it, then so be it.

Porto didn't want Moutinho to leave, he was forcing his way out, of course they were going to make it as difficult as possible

If a 3rd party owns 15% of Moutinho, wouldn't they have a "say" whether he gets sold or not and at what price? Just like preferred stock in a company? It's possible the minority rights holders didn't want to sell and that's what blocked the deal.

This would/should have been sounded out months ago. Not on the last day.

From hertyid COYS

mouts - fee agreed but porto excluded 3rd party fees at last minute which increased fee by 15% minimum. deal last night was reneged on.

llorente - fee agreed. player wanted 150 amd we wouldnt pay it.

lloris - done as said.

dembele - done as said.

willian - shak wanted 24m+ and we didnt think worth it.

dempsey - 6m for 25+ goals, pl experience and versatility. easy signing.

modric and king always gone. vdv made space for sig and demp. ade signed. verts signed.

we are arguably stronger squad than last year. would have loved more but is what it is. avb behins everything.

believe. 3pts tomorrow.

Please no negative rep! These are not necessarily my views

Can't believe there are some 'fans' on here who are already writing off Dempsey.

I guarantee if Dempsey had scored the amount of goals he had scored in other top league in Europe then there wouldn't be the whinging that is going on currently at the moment.

For £6m we could do a lot worse... He will easily pay that money back and treble it with the goals he scores.
He is the emblem of todays failure in the market. WHY did we buy an old Yank, against every Levy principle. If you are stupid enough to fall for those crumbs then so be it. I'm not.
Dempsey=Jenas.

Time for a change of leadership at spurs, levy has proven that he only cares for margins, and us fans don't exsit in his world, i'm also convinced they actually feed the fans bullshit via the forums and laugh at us whilst we all lose control. Well this a big disappointment, and lets hope we gain europa next season anything above is a miracle, or just pure luck!

Mate I'm a qualified accountant with a degree in it.

We made a transfer profit AGAIN. Comprende?

It's clearly a lack of ambition IMO

Well maybe you should start thinking like one then? Like Levy in fact (and he's more qualified than you, and also knows the Spurs books better than you)

Yep, comprende - will come in bloody useful when the likes of Sandro and Kaboul impress this season and the top clubs are sniffing around them and we can reward them with the contracts that keeps them at the lane don't you agree?

'Lack of ambition', lovely cliche. If lack of ambition is building us a state of the art training facility, giving us a bigger stadium and overseeing us putting together an excellent youth academy that will see us good for the future then I don't know what you expect if I'm honest.

Grow up.

I do not buy that crap. I'm not disputing the 3rd party ownership, but they would have known about that months ago. And, if they didn't there is something seriously wrong somewhere. I negotiate copyright in music, and if I was to announce to my client before a film/ad/game is to go live that 'oh shit sorry, we can't roll with this deal because I've just suddenly realised xyz owns 15% of the publishing' I would be asked why the hell did I not look into this before.....smacks of incompetence.

Maybe the 15% owner suddenly stood up and said he wanted more money (and given the wat v-ownership agreemenys often work that means putting up the price for 100%).

Shit like that happens.

We can't recall players loaned out to other Premier League teams.
Can we not? Is that a hard and fast regulation? Recall clause at Christmas maybe?

I'm not arguing btw, I don't know about the technicalities.

In which case, I believe in AVB's mind his options up front are 1) Ade 2) Defoe 3) Dempsey 4) Bale. I know Bale's a last resort, but AVB's already experimented with that and I'm sure it's in his mind.

If we're playing 1 up front, that gives us sufficient cover IMO.

I'm a big fan of Kane's, so I'm sad to see him go out again in a way. But I'd rather he tear shit up at Norwich and come back to the Lane full of goals next season, than sit on the bench all year and get dejected at the lack of chances. The development curve he's on is similar to Walker's, and I'm hoping it has similar results.
