This would/should have been sounded out months ago. Not on the last day.

But if we were negotiating a fee and Porto agreed to a lower price of 22M, it's possible the minority shareholders didn't agree to that new price and wouldn't sell for less than 30M. This is all conjecture, of course.

The problem is not that we failed to get Moutinho, but rather that by letting this transfer linger all summer, we couldn't even get a second option. Epic fail on Levy's part.

It's been said many times but only because it's true: don't leave your most important deal until the last minute. Beacuse things can go wrong. And did.

I know we need to do our upmost to get the best deal, but sometimes you need to pay a little bit more to ensure that your new manager gets the players he thinks will transform the team. If that means not buying a Siggurdson or a Dembele in order to afford it, then so be it.

Problem with not signing those 2 is that they score goals - something that Modric and Moutinho do not.

He is the emblem of todays failure in the market. WHY did we buy an old Yank, against every Levy principle. If you are stupid enough to fall for those crumbs then so be it. I'm not.
Dempsey=Jenas.

Dempsey is a very nice "bonus" signing. If Moutinho had gone through - and yes, that's a big if - people would be incredibly pleased with Dempsey. I'd rather Dempsey wasn't attacked. The failure to secure Moutinho is absolutely outrageous and sickening, yes, but Dempsey is still good.

Can we not? Is that a hard and fast regulation? Recall clause at Christmas maybe?

I'm not arguing btw, I don't know about the technicalities.

In which case, I believe in AVB's mind his options up front are 1) Ade 2) Defoe 3) Dempsey 4) Bale. I know Bale's a last resort, but AVB's already experimented with that and I'm sure it's in his mind.

If we're playing 1 up front, that gives us sufficient cover IMO.

I'm a big fan of Kane's, so I'm sad to see him go out again in a way. But I'd rather he tear shit up at Norwich and come back to the Lane full of goals next season, than sit on the bench all year and get dejected at the lack of chances. The development curve he's on is similar to Walker's, and I'm hoping it has similar results.

Players on a season long loan in the Premier League cannot be recalled at all. :) Otherwise we could have recalled Caulker last year, just like City could have recalled Adebayor when we were breathing down their necks.

mouts - fee agreed but porto excluded 3rd party fees at last minute which increased fee by 15% minimum. deal last night was reneged on.

llorente - fee agreed. player wanted 150 amd we wouldnt pay it.

Sorry but with our ambitions and outgoings I would have agreed this, even I don't have an exactly clue of our money business...

But this is sth to explain.

Dempsey's a great signing given the circumstances. No one should be complaining about that. Good cover for any of the front three and makes up somewhat for the goals that we will be losing from Rafa. It's a separate issue from Moutinho so shouldn't be equated in that way. That said, it doesn't make up for the failure to sign Moutinho or an alternate replacement for Modric, and I hope that Levy doesn't think that it will. I'd like to think that he'll endeavour to make up for it in January but we've been here so many times before. I doubt we'll see much business in Jan at all.

I really believe that Moutinho would have made the difference for us this season, but as usual we're just that one or two players short which will probably result in us being those one or two points short. It's an endless cycle. Frustrated.

Rabbit out of a hat because without him we would be screwed. His goals will be crucial.

But we shouldnt be in this situation. Moutinho should have been signed in July.

lloris - done as said.

dembele - done as said.

willian - shak wanted 24m+ and we didnt think worth it.

dempsey - 6m for 25+ goals, pl experience and versatility. easy signing.

modric and king always gone. vdv made space for sig and demp. ade signed. verts signed.

we are arguably stronger squad than last year. would have loved more but is what it is. avb behins everything.

believe. 3pts tomorrow.

Please no negative rep! These are not necessarily my views
NO, most of that we should have known ages ago. Please if you are in the know give me someones number. I can help. Or at least make a packet for doing little more than whoever is in charge of this shambles is on. I am so pissed off.
We have missed the boat. DEMPSEY? FFS!

Time for a change of leadership at spurs, levy has proven that he only cares for margins, and us fans don't exsit in his world, i'm also convinced they actually feed the fans bullshit via the forums and laugh at us whilst we all lose control. Well this a big disappointment, and lets hope we gain europa next season anything above is a miracle, or just pure luck!

Works 2 ways, we got the French captain, one of the top 3 or 4 keepers in the world and still only 25 for £8m, fucking master stroke by Levy there

We didn't really have a choice with VDV did we?...didn't HE want to leave and we all know the situation with Modric...it's not like Levy/AVB forced them out. Like I said previously, the Moutinho transfer must have been more complicated than it seemed. We've signed 6 potentially great new players and extended contracts of some of the best players in the league, Walker, Bale etc...and people are still angry? are you supporters or what?

not sure how hertyid can think that we are stronger than last year. we might not be a ton worse, but we def aren't better. we signed good players at good prices, but they can't fill the shoes of a luka modric, nor a rafa vdv (though a lot closer on this one). is there any area where we look stronger at all. in cm - nope, dembele for modders, am- nope, vdv for sig and dempsey, wide forward- not a lot, can play dempsey there i guess, striker- nope, traded pav from first half of season for emergency dempsey use, defense- okay probably, jv>king now and naughton back to cover fb.

how r we stronger...?
ade - ade
vdv - cd
lm - md
san - san
sp = sp
xx = gs

if we have gained anything there we r not stronger up top and certainly not in defense given yk injury.. and worse of all we appear to have kept jj yet again... that in itself is a joke

Sounds likely, the shareholders thought they would get 15% of £30m = £4.5m but when Porto accepted £22m then shareholders would have got £3.3m - so that's quite a big percentage less for them.

I don't believe Dempsey has signed to be a bench warmer, he's in the first eleven I reckon.

you know if we started seriously working on moutinho and willian oh I dont know, say 2 months ago, they would both be spurs players now

anyway add them to the list of players we tried to sign at the last possible minute because it worked well once with VDV.
goodnight folks, enjoy the game against Norwich tomorrow were we have 70% possession but fail to score more than 1 goal!
