Showgirl being rescued by Policeman who carries her from a burning building...
Policeman: Miss you could have been burnt alive in there.
Showgirl: Oh I am a little tipsy and I have a splitting headache. Er, what is that thing snaking itself around my leg?
Policeman: (reddening) oh nothing Miss, its just my truncheon.
Showgirl: My, but you do have very BIG hard truncheon. What's your name then?
Policeman: PC Bernard at your service Miss.

That kind of sums up the five themes of the thread; truncheon's, sex, alcohol, Bernard and a hangover. Good afternoon all! So when are we singing the little chap then?

Pretty sure it was just to do with Bale, but if we are to extrapolate in a positive frame of mind, then it might be the case that if he's willing to spend on keeping Bale he may also be willing to spend on improving the squad.

My humble opinion is that if we get Benteke, that'll already be the best part of 40m spent, and any other signings will have to be balanced by outgoings. But who knows...maybe we're about to see an 80m bonanza of net spending.

That's my personal opinion as well.

And, quite frankly it's a pretty awesome thing. Because we still have at least 4-5 players we could sell. I'm hoping a lot of that money, should it be used for incomings, is going to be utilized to add some youth and depth with huge potential. Youngsters like Ruben Garcia (Buyout of 8m and already could be a starter for us on the left), etc.

40m spent would be a very good start to the window and if we could potentially spend the rest of what we receive in terms from players sold, we could really put ourselves in a great position to add depth to a squad that already has a very strong First XI.

Spend like Fuck. If it doesn't work out and we fail then sell Bale next summer to balance the books leaving us with a pretty decent squad to pick up the pieces.

What happens if Bale gets the same injury as Sandro ? No one will buy until he proves he has fully recovered if he ever did. Far too big a risk to spend wildly in the hope everything works out OK.

So then we might have to keep Bale another year? Sure, we spent big from the season before but with the guaranteed extra 30m coming to EPL sides after this season, it might even out anyhow. That's before we sell anyone next year, as well.

No doubt that Benteke and Paulinho at 17 & 20 odd would be the limits of our spending! This club is just run that way like it or lump it! We won't be doing a City o Chelsea. If anybody else came in, it would be because of sales and we are talking a 6-8m player tops!

Not unless AVB adjusts his season expectations and slides the wage budget toggle across. Then we'd be rolling in it.

I am all for signing Benteke. If nothing else it should put an end to the Leandro chat once and for all. Hope he and his agent enjoy life in Southampton.

You have won my vote for insipration of the day. Are you saying gamble, take risk, be brave.
What if it back fires and we win a cup or two, maybe come 2nd or win the league.

i took atlanta as meaning he's opening the cheque book for new signings, as i don't see bale signing a new deal.

I took it to mean the opposite. Bale is staying on improved terms. (Not necessary any extra duration)

Doesn't mean there is any change long term but we are paying him closer to what he'd get elsewhere to show willing.

Not sure how serious this guy is or if he just seeking some attention..but he seems pretty confident ... ITK? IDK!

Heres what he says:

Christian Benteke is a done deal. He will join Spurs this week...
£23 Million
5 Year Contract
£85k A-Week
Number 9 Shirt
That's the same info from four different, well respected individuals. All with a great track record on Spurs exclusives. I'm sure there will be more to follow in the coming days.
Is this where I add the "I told you so" line?

It all depends on the terms of payment to the selling clubs. These things are done over the period of the contract. In actual fact some of the payments up front do not need to be absolutely huge. Our sales will also help with this.

Still 2 huge commitments though!

Even the most optimistic Spurs an would struggle to imagine us spending 50m+ in 1 window!

I saw this earlier and came to the conclusion that the name of the site said it all. I don't think he has any more info than what is floating around here.

I feel the same way really, but thought its worth putting out there...not much different to the other imaginative things that go on throughout the day on this site..

The Spursdreamer blog was banging the Carroll (andy) and Willian to Spurs deals as done a couple of windows back.

Then they were deleted the day after the window closed.

Thats all you need to know about the validity of that site.

why would we give bale a pay-rise without an increase on the length of his contract? we gain nothing from that but lose a couple of million in the process? i don't see bale signing a new deal, i don't know i've been dumbed and doh'ed for that. he probably feels like he's rewarding us by staying for next season, he doesn't want to make it harder for himself to get a move by signing a longer deal - like what happened with luka.
