I have seen him quite a bit,but serious question, If he is as brilliant as people on here think then why are they selling him?

Part of me is a little sad that we may soon field a team on one or two Brits...I know its modern day football and we move with the times and having lived through the dark days of dozzell, cundy and booth the future is looking lillywhite..just wish there was a modern day Paul Allen ( or simular ilk ) to balance it out..

The youth development programme seems to indicate the club wants British players in the future though

so now we have problems with Coentrao over Ekotto? lol one thing this place is never short of is laughs.

just so we're clear, it's entirely possible for us to deal with Real without it having to involve Bale. sure, they can ask or make an offer, but we're perfectly entitled to refuse. it's allowed, I've checked. the thing is, Coentrao actually wants to move, so they can either sell to us, sell to anyone else interested, or just vindictively hold on to him just to spite us if no-one else wants him. given that they've already excused him from training this week, and not included him in their preseason match in Lyon today, I'd say the last scenario is highly unlikely. if he decides he's interested in playing for us, then the first scenario becomes more likely. either way, just because they want Bale doesn't mean we have to agree to anything that even remotely commits us to selling him.

Absolutely, in fact, you might say that they have a very big motivation to keep us onside.

Ultimately, we're not going to sell Bale for as long as he wants to stay, they know this, BUT at some point, if we don't start winning trophies, he is going to express his desire to leave.

Now, at that point RM know that they need to be in our good books, because DL is more than capable of accepting less money from say, Barcelona, to prove a point. RM had first hand experience of this in the Modric deal with Chelsea last year.

RM want to keep us close and on that note, you could say its funny that Higuin is now off to Napoli.

It's all relative. RM are a massive team. A player 'not good enough' for Real Madrid can be more than good enough for us e.g. VDV.

Marcelo? I don't watch Real a lot but I'd imagine he wouldn't get much of a look in over Marcelo so he's probably the one asking to leave.

The line about us looking to loan him makes sense. I think he is great, and perhaps better than anything else available to us over the next 2-3 years, but I have a sense that we have the hots for Shaw and would want to be in a position to compete with Chelsea for his signiture when Coles deal expires next year if we could and I don't see us being able to do that and shift him on if we spend 12m on Contreou and put him on 60k a week.

I think that there is a club vision of an all english back 4 if possible, walker, caulker,---and shaw

is he better than Coentrao?
Who?
I see what you did there,:) like I say I don't take much notice of other leagues and I don't play fifa whatever the number, never have done and so don't care how its spelt, I can spell Ba though but I wouldn't want him anywhere near my club.
I can also spell Soldier Bob which might come in handy very soon.

another thing re Bale/Coentrao....Coentrao will go for what, £15m? Bale (if reports are to believed) has a valuation in the region of £85m. does anyone here seriously believe that the same Daniel Levy who won't "just spend the extra £1/2/5/10m (delete as necessary" on signings is suddenly going to get hoodwinked into promising them an £85m asset on the cheap just to get a £15m left-back? Not. Gonna. Happen. let's remember who we're dealing with here.

Weird RE: Soldado, loads of leaks all yesterday and complete silence today.. Can only spell good for us IMO. Would suggest we've told them to keep quiet and if they've obeyed; would imply we are in the driving seat for the deal. If talks weren't ongoing I'm sure Mr. Big shot president would of been leaking to the press like no tomorrow how the deal had crumbled.

One of our ITK said the leaks were coming from their end, perhaps they have been told if they want this deal to be done, they need to stfu

I don't really rate him, in fact I am always amazed so many spanish defenders are put in people's top World/European teams

I hate the way he plays (he's such an asshole). But, I always found him to be incredibly talented. Unfortunately, I think his douchebaggery gets in the way of how good he actually could be.

Marcelo can be absolutely irresistible going forward on his day though, and thats what Madrid have always placed more importance on give or take. The dude has a showreel of absolutely stunning goals and powerful runs. I'd say that Coentrao is a bit better defensively, and not as dynamic going forward but I honestly don't think there's too much between them.

Agree, the Spanish league is not the greatest defensively and the comp doesn't have strength in depth; which leads me to another question: is Soldado's goal scoring record padded out a little by penalties (Bent style)? Not saying he isn't any good, just trying to validate this as a fact or not.
