Hopefully that would rule out Martinez. He couldn't attract a metal spoon if he was dressed in magnets.

I have noticed your apathy towards Martinez but do you not think he is as innovative a manager as we are likely to pursue?

He does have his flaws and it's hard to ignore the defensive frailties of his sides but he has plenty of upside too and a comes across as a very amiable chap indeed and certainly displays a lot more humility than Redknapp.

May not be my first choice but I can see why he would be coveted.

1 RM could be "1 real madrid" - so jose. OR. It could be Raul Meireles, continuing his tour of premiership clubs. OR. It could be roberta mettleswick, Daniel Levy's brand new Zen garden designer - who has been brought in specially to sculpt a new japanese feature on the top of the east stand, as part of an ongoing contract settlement with kazayuki Toda. My money is on the latter.

I actually see that as a negative thing. Nothing against him personally - he seems like a genuinely nice bloke. Unfortunately nice guys almost always finish last (with the exception of Lineker, who instead finished well).

I want someone to fight our corner - not their own (like Harry had a habit of doing), or the opposition's (like Martinez has done time and time again). We need a winning mentality, whereas Martinez just has a grinning mentality.

Just put £100 on Blanc at 33/1. Out of contract and has said he fancies premiership.

Spookily enough the Bet Victor have Harry to be the next Arse / Man Utd / Man City / Swansea manager, all at 33/1?
I struggle to understand what the bookies base odds on but after seeing that I would assume that 33/1 is a very very very long shot. Having said that if Blanc does come that would be a dashing bold adventure.

I think some of us could do with a bit of time in the Zen garden. Or the Kleenex garden, whichever.

Is it fair to say that if AVB hadn't taken the Chelsea job last summer and had decided to stay at Porto for another year he'd currently be the overwhelming fans favourite for the job?

The question is whether his time at Chelsea was a true reflection of his abilities as a coach. I'm inclined to think not to be honest.

AVB only really made one mistake - taking a job at Chelsea.... working for Roman at a club where the senior players have more say than the manager.

It's a valid point although there is a fine line between fighting our corner and becoming the next Kenny Dalglish!

If we get Blanc I hope he hires Barthez as goalie coach so that he can kiss his head before every game for luck!

Or maybe he could just kiss Levy's.

Well, let me start by saying 'In Levy I trust'.....
The whole 'will he, won't he?' Harry saga was dragging on, and I'm just glad that bit has been resolved. But now we face the uncertainty and speculation over his replacement.
Going on previous sacking/hiring's, Im fairly certain Levy must have something up his sleeve, as when Jol went, Ramos was in within days if I recall correctly, and Redknapp was only a day or so after Ramos went. Not to mention, on this occasion, Levy will no doubt have freely done a lot of the homework when Harry was touted for the England job.
From my point of view, Spurs, and Levy in particular, are about to be made the real villains of the piece in the press, Harry's flowing football, 4th/5th/4th etc, but the reality is, the club looked after him through his illness and court case, but once the England job was on his radar, he had already gone in his head, at least that's the way it appears given our results during that period. The run of form that ultimately cost us 3rd place and CL football was the final straw, that and Harry's failure to commit either way during the England debacle.
Now to the job of finding a replacement.
Despite being the bookies early favourite, I can honestly say I am underwhelmed by the prospect of Moyes. He seems a 'safe pair of hands' at best. Granted he has done 'ok', despite only having limited funds at Everton, but they have never been any more than a grizzly tough side to beat, hardly entertained and challenged for anything. He wouldn't be the exciting prospect for me.
I half expect us to return to Levy's favoured D.o.F. system, but with who, I don't know. The papers rumour van Gaal, more likely D.o.F than head coach I assume, since he was runoured to be heading that way with Liverpool until Rodgers got the managers job and vetoed it. Also, Martinez has been linked, but again, depsite playing a better brand of football, he just is not the signing that makes me enthusiastic about the coming season, and would our bigger names be reassured too?? Benitez and AVB have been rumoured, and both are free, I would take the latter over the former any day.
Who knows, but for now I just hope it is wrapped up a bit sharpish, so we can reshape the squad and hit preseason running, whilst securing the future of our big players, rather than face another long spell of uncertainty, leaving us unprepared for the new season.
