If Toby does leave, as seems to be the case, we need someone of similar ilk and experience to replace him.

He might look better at the same age. Is it not fair to say though the standard of the Dutch league in general, gets weaker every year?

This to an extent I agree with,

But you can see the raw materials there for a very good centre back, lets not forget Davison Sanchez looked immense in that league and at times has been tested in the premiler league but when he gets to next year I think he will be even better.

The dutch league throws out as many duds and as many huge hits.

The one thing you can assure with buying an Ajax player is that they will always have good fundamental coaching. Someone who has been with them for life like De Light will have all the raw tools to be an excellent footballer atleast technically.

There's no club on earth better suited for De Light than us we have his two idols Toby & Jan the first one for how long we dont know.

We have his former centre back partner Sanchez and we have Eriksen all who have came from Ajax and can help him adapt quicker.

My only issue with this signing is Juan Foyth what happens to him he has shown the raw ability to be an excellent player but I just do not think he is a centre half due to his physical incapabilities.

I do think the same, although Jan is our experienced head there now i think - but the cost for that level of experience (contracts/buy-outs aside) is very high at the moment.

Our focus seems to be on younger value, where the outlays needed to buy will at least be recouped in the long term i.e. Sanchez. For what it's worth though, i agree with you - an top quality, experienced player would help us more than another young prospect at the moment. That knowledge on the pitch is sometimes a bit lacking IMO.

Alderwield has been got at and it seems he is going to get £180 grand a week and he has kindly said that he will stay if we match this figure .To me a player no matter how good is not worth tuppence if injured and he has spent long periods over the last. three years. In his absence our players have managed to let in fewer goals than 17 of the 20 premier clubs not to shabby in my opinion. So the choice is give in to what amounts to blackmail or tell him bye bye.We have overcome the loss of Bale and King and many others the day the club lets the tail wag the dog we might as well let them run the club as well ;it seems the players are taking out approx 45% of turnover as it is if they had there way the figure would be99% .Greedy self centred most players on the whole.I for one would sooner be a mid table side than give in to these players and there are centre halves such as Mawson Maguire DeLigt and many more that will fit into our pay model and so I say bye bye to anyone who wants more than he is worth in my opinion

Yeah, I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion tbh. My only concern in is signing him is what happens to Foyth. If Toby leaves and he's pushed back for a kid younger than him I can see him wanting out.

Toby to Barca, great news if it happens. A shame but somewhat inevitable.

Foyth has CM written all over him if DeLigit (too lazy to check spelling) comes in at CB. Foyth has lovely ball control, can carry ot forward and seems have a decent pass. Poch really likes him from what ive read.

We can’t afford to miss the boat on Ligit. Poch wants a back 3!
Good to hear. I believe this makes us defensively stronger and means Foyth will get his chances. I do however think this means we need more dynamic full-backs.

Hope we get De Ligt

He's only 18 though, I'd be surprised if thrown straight in unless he is THAT good?

Anyone know which foot he favours as well?

Barcelona, PSG etc are the best potential destinations for Toby so I could live with that. I would also encourage us trying to get someone like Rabiot or Rafinha in return if possible.

Perhaps Dier will be used there more often in the beginning. Dier was usually given a bit more of a licence to roam forward as part of the 3, so that will allow him to continue his idea of being a CM - I preferred him in this role actually.

It is also important to note how mature De Ligt is for his age, he's younger than Sanchez but seems to have the same level of maturity, if not more so. He's got two seasons of top-flight football behind him (including European), as well as 5 caps for the Netherlands which shows how much faith managers have in him, even at such an age.
