Much needed week off for Dier. Think he's the sort of hard working player that England have been crying out for over the past 10 yrs but managers only seem to be focused on creative ones who get the media attention.

Don't understand Phil Jones being in the squad considering he's only made one substitute appearance for Utd so far this season but it's not an area where we're blessed with options like midfield.

Just as well. Why anyone would want our players to go off on England duty in the season and be coached by him is beyond me.

Also, Rose isnt even playing much at all right now. Why would you even think he'd be selected? Blaming Hodgson for not selecting him in the squad is ridiculous. Blame Poch for not playing him causing Rose to miss a chance at England.

It's not Pochettino's fault at all. Davies has not done anything to be dropped. Rose has still been better than any other English LB for the last year and he was again fantastic against Arsenal (and yes, he is still being played in other competitions) when fit It's clear that Rose will never get in the squad regardless of what he does unless there are like 5 injuries.

I prefer Rose to Davies but the latter has still been part of a great defence and dropping him would be stupid.

rose was a consistent 8/10 pretty much every game since the turn of the year. he gets injured, davies comes in and does an ok to decent job but he's basically benefiting from the team's recent form, he even gets credited with our recent run of clean sheets even though rose was in the team when it started. surely davies has to be performing better or at least equal to rose to displace him, i don't get why it's now rose who has to "earn" his place back, it would be like telling lloris he has to get his place back from vorm if the latter came in due to an injury and did a serviceable enough job. even this season rose has played four games and has been one of our two best players(according to the motm threads) in three of those.

I imagine it all comes down to how Poch is defining who is playing bette - because that is who really matters here. I think they both have different strengths and weaknesses. Rose tends to be more aggressive, which makes him look "better" at times, and also leaves the team vulnerable at other times. Davies tends to be more conservative, which makes him less effective in attack, but also helps the team maintain better defensive shape.

Given the emphasis on defense, I am guessing that Poch prefers the fullbacks who are sounder defensively, at the expense of more attacking FBs. I think all 4 fullbacks can do the job, so I am not terribly fussed about who is starting league games, and who is starting Europa games. I just hope they all stay healthy.

And Monaco. I think with Rose you get the 2 extremes in excellence and stupidity whereas Davies just gives you a lot more meh....nothing amazing but nothing atrocious.

TBF we only seen that bad extreme once this season and even then it was a poor side we played against

Gibbs has been poor for arsenal for 2 seasons, there is a thread on arsemania on how he isn't anywhere near Monreal atm. Roy has effectively picked a back up left back for half a season now. Its pathetic, just like the england squad

Alli has only started 3 PL matches and is in the england squad whilst Dier who has been getting better and better, imo better than Alli in most aspects bar pressing and little nice touches/flicks/passes and shit yet can't get anywhere near the england team

Meanwhile Clyne has been in a defence that has more leaks than the titanic and the same goes for Cahill who has been shocking

Whilst Jones who has played 58mins of footy all season goes straight in to the national team

Same for Bertrand played less games than Rose for fuck sake

Lallana another guy who has played a bit part role this season

I personally think Barkley has learnt some bad habits and gone poor ever since his initial call up and I fear the same for Alli. Barkley was utter dog shit against us.

Im starting to think England is rotten from top to bottom with its coaching and coaches.

TBF Dier was horrible in his last match at CB for U21's. Unrecognisable from the player who has been playing for us. He was shocking.

These ratings include the whole of 2015 though, including his games for Burnley. But I agree, he has yet to impress for us.
