Wilshere really shouldn't be going, but unfortunately the inability of others to simply but in a decent performance means he probably will end up going now. Can see Drinkwater and Barkley being left behind unfortunately as Roy bizarrely rates Wilshere

I've decided..

Delph - Injured
Barkley - better players in his position
Milner - doesn't get in stating line up and there is a better specialist back up

Why doesn't Milner get a mention in anything??!! No1 talks about him to start and no1 talks about him to miss out. It's like he is invisible

All bias aside, I don't see how if Wilshere can only play 45 minutes against Australia that we can possibly take him?

Fit he gets in the side but we can't write off a sub every game in my opinion.

Him, Delph and Sturridge to stay home.

Would feel more confident bringing on Townsend in a game where we needed a goal than bringing on Barkley that's for sure.

Cant really see a circumstance where he plays TBH.

Also can't see a circumstance when Milner will play either

Wilshere plays for arsenal, that's enough for Roy.

I'd leave three of
Drinkwater
Delph
Barkley
Wilshere

Don't know how you can't see a role for Milner o_O

It's clearly Emergency RB when we're down to 10 but need a goal in extra time Vs Germany.

He is Mr Emergency so if we see him on the pitch we are probably in the shit already

I don't get the Rooney hate. Yes he hasn't quite lived up to the promise of his early career and hasn't been great in the big tournaments ( although he was pretty good in his debut one and one of our better players in the last one). However that could be said about so many of Englands players.

He's still a quality player, the captain and vastly experienced.

I think he has become almost a symbol of England's failure to capitalise on the "golden generation" so regardless what he does be won't get the recognition he probably should.

I know he scores plenty against minnows but so did Charlton. Only difference is Charlton won a world cup therefore no-one cares anymore.

I really hope that England and Rooney have an excellent tournament and bring a bit of passion back to the national side. I want to feel like I did in 1996. I feel with our lads and a bit of luck we could have a great tournament but who knows.

I intended on writing a little preview about a few Australian players on whom you should keep an eye prior to the game but I had a lot of uni assignments due and when that was done I decided to get really drunk instead.

Still, I'm interested to know the thoughts of the learned people here on the side we're putting together for the Confederations Cup and Russia 2018 (should we qualify), bearing in mind that neither of our first choice CB's were playing and neither were our 1st or 2nd choice striker. I'm particularly interested to know external thoughts on Tom Rogic and Aaron Mooy, who I personally thought were outstanding in the game. They are two of the most intelligent and technically best footballers my country has produced in a very long time and they seem destined for big future with Rogic receiving serious interest from Fiorentina and Valencia (and apparently Woolwich) and a Mooy move from my A-League team Melbourne City (where he scored 11 goals and had 20 assists in a 27 game season this year) imminent with apparently a slew of European clubs interested. So yeah, what did you think?
