That was a game of two polar halves pretty much. England were fucking shite for the first 45 minutes, but at least they worked hard without the ball second half and that got them into a game they'd looked like passengers in beforehand. I just don't understand why England coaches don't get them doing this every game, they haven't got great technical players, they have not got clever midfielders who will run a game's tempo and direction, they are not tactically good at all, but if the work like fuckers without the ball, press it higher up instead of that reactive passive aggressive shit, they could at least cause teams problems in a different way, as they did second half a bit better, and could against better teams in tournaments.

Alli 1 game ban
Glad to see some sense. I understand giving him a little slap on the wrist for "bad behaviour" in front of tv cameras but it would've been way OTT if he'd missed a WC game because of it.

He's going to miss the World Cup Qualifying game against Slovenia.

Yeah, and who gives a toss? England won't not qualify for Russia whether Alli plays or not.

I agree, but you said it would have been OTT if he'd missed a world cup game. Did you mean in the Finals rather than the qualifiers?

Yeah I meant the finals, I've never considered qualifiers "world cup games". They're qualifiers, there's a difference in my mind.

Fair enough, I assumed you thought he was banned for a friendly. My mistake.

Garth Southgate might not be the best manager around, but he seems to talk a lot of sense these days:

Gareth Southgate has made the frank admission that there are players in his current England squad who “do not deserve to be there”, with injuries having opened the door to some who have barely figured his season.

The journo mentions that Mauricio Pellegrino is speaking Alli a lot :banghead:

The FA finally called in Jack Harrison to one of your national sides? Took them long enough. Very good player and only getting better. Might even be good enough for a mid to lower table PL side right now, dare I say it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "took them long enough". I'm sure they're perfectly aware of Harrison, but unfortunately as with Scott Sinclair, if you're in an awful league it's difficult to really ascertain a player's ability.

If the MLS was in any way relevant as a marker of a player's capability at international level, Bradley Wright-Phillips would have got a call-up...luckily he spent long enough in England to show himself to be a Championship player at best (he only really stood out at League One level), so there was never any clamour for him to get the nod.

Read somewhere that Maureen asked that Rashford not be played in the upcoming internationals. If the request is acceded to, I must ask why we are making such a big contribution to the England cause to risk burn-out of our players when it is almost given that England will not be winning any trophy in the foreseeable future.

Standard Man Utd absolving their players of international duty. Lukaku's been pulled out of the Belgium squad but you can bet your life he'll be starting Man Utd's next game.
