So having qualified, who would make your 23 man squad?

GK: Fraser Forster, Jack Butland, Jordan Pickford

DF: Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Ryan Bertrand, Phil Jones, Michael Keane, Gary Cahill, Harry Maguire

MF: Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Adam Lallana, Fabian Delph, Harry Winks, Nathaniel Chalobah

FW: Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Tammy Abraham

Saying that we'll certainly see the likes of Henderson, Hart, Stones and Sterling starting.

This is going to be unpopular but I'd give Wilshire a shot (literally, if you insist!) if he can prove his fitness this season.

Why would you do that when you have a far more reliable and better option over him in Winks? We need a player who we can build a style around and Wilshere is just unreliable, his time is done.

If you were able to get Kane, Rashford, Dele, and Lallana on the pitch all at the same time, bringing Sterling off the bench, you might just have a chance for some cohesion and some great attacking play

Got to get back into his club side first surely.

Of course.

And also by "proving his fitness" I don't just mean being able to stand up without a foot coming loose as usual, I mean playing regularly, properly, and convincingly. I don't like the guy for obvious reasons, but at his best he was a promising attacking midfielder which is what England could do with more of, and if he can get that back, he'd be worth another look.

Problem is his best was 6 years ago and he has regressed dramatically since. We shall see but England's midfield is certainly in a bad place.

Could do with Pochettino getting hold of Ross Barkley and getting him playing well consistently.

Frankly I would consider dropping Dele into midfield against teams that sit, because we are far too predictable in trying to go down the flank.

You do not need Henderson and Dier against anyone but the big boys (and I’m sure there’s a good case for even then).

I think England have pretty decent attackers if everyone is fit and in form (which is unlikely). Obviously Kane is incredible and the one genuine star in the team, but Dele, Lallana, and Sturridge are all very capable attackers too. Get those four playing well together and we'll be a handful for most teams. Add Walker and Rose on the flanks and you've got the makings of a decent side.

For me the huge problems are squad depth (Vardy, Sterling, Wellshit, and Walclutz are weak options), the centre of midfield (as discussed at length...Henderson is dreadful), and our centre-backs. Should go without saying that Hart shouldn't be in goal anymore.

It must be the worst group of English centre-backs for several generations, if not since football began. If we weren't so threadbare in midfield I'd be tempted to play Dier back there.

I honestly think our only hope of winning a tournament is doing a Greece, and we don't even have the discipline to do that. Just need to suck it up and hope that better players emerge over the next few years.

We don't need Henderson full stop.

Alli needs to play in the same position as he does for us to get the most out of his link up with Kane. Hodgson tried playing him deeper and it didn't really work as he wasn't getting into scoring positions as often. What we need is someone like Winks who can control and dictate tempo whilst simultaneously not being afraid to pass the ball forwards. Hopefully he'll get a decent run out at some point tomorrow and have a blinder.

You'd think it would be obvious to mould the England team around who plays where for their club. If the team has Rose, Dier, Alli and Kane, and possibly Winks in the future, then use them as Spurs do and fit the others around it. If you add Walker to that and potentially Barkley, should he join Spurs, then you've got nearly half the team sorted already.

Between Spurs and Man City there is enough quality to get England playing at a higher level than they currently are. The rest just needs tweaking. Replace Hart, settle on a centre back partnership (guessing Stones and Cahill), add in Rashford, Sterling, and decide on who else to play in midfield - be it Winks, Barkley or Henderson - and that's the team. Southgate doesn't have to do anything different with them; no new tactics or anything special. Copy the style used at the clubs.

It says something when our second (ooohhh controversial) best defensive midfielder is a better centre back than any of England's and a better midfielder than the Gerrard Mk2 that they keep picking.

Have to admit that I'd completely forgotten about Rashford. Probably because I think he's massively overrated.

He is overrated by Man u fans, but does have tallent, i just think he gets misused and isnt a winger/wide forward.
