First time I've woken up with 'Spurs nerves' for an England match since, hmmm, 1998? Maybe 2002.

To feel anything for our national team is something I didn't think would return, so it's actually pretty damn good to genuinely care about our result for once.

I lived in Colombia in 2016 and watched quite a few of their qualifiers. They're a funny old team - talented but very inconsistent and seem to suffer from a bit of an inferiority complex, not unlike us. In qualifying they basically beat all the teams below them and lost to those above them, and only a handful of their performances were impressive.

Poland sat off them and let them play, but Senegal pressed them and made them look average. I think if we come raging out of the blocks like we did against Tunisia we can cause them serious problems as they aren't used to that, but we need to be ruthless and not let them grow into the game. Of course if James doesn't play that would be absolutely massive as they're nowhere near as good without him.

I'm actually shaking like an alcoholic with withdrawal as I write this. So bloody nervous.

Might as well not bother with work today, I can’t think of anything other than this match. Such a massive game. Come on England! Come on Kane!!

Colombia's best player won't be 100%; no Germany, Argentina, Spain or Portugal; Sweden or Switzerland in the Q/F; and Brazil, France, Croatia & Belgium look beatable...still can't escape this feeling that England's going to find a way to screw this up.

Got a feeling Dele will play and have a good game. Now’s the time he needs to step up, harry can’t score all the goals and Sterling seems incapable of transferring his club form to international level.

Interestingly, I don't think he should start, unless it's a formation change.
He was far too deep against Tunisia and largely ineffective.
He needs to be just behind Kane if he is going to influence the result.

It's the first time I've had 'Spurs nerves' since we played Scotland in the qualifiers. Yes, I know we ought to beat Scotland (in theory at least), but local derbies are so unpredictable, and England have a habit of making things difficult for themselves at the best of times. Like many English people, I know one or two Scots, and the thought of losing against them in any sport is unbearable, simply because of the chirp you're going to get.
