So this is one of the close going ahead before the race restarted, lewis is on the left, close for this one.

This one you can't even see lewis after going around the corner, but not the best angle to see where lewis is.

Would be surprised if the result is changed. Red Bull gambled on a yellow flag and won. Lots of close calls in the last two races but trying to let the pair of them race made for a way more interesting sport. Now if they made tracks with more passing opportunities the sport might be worth regularly watching again
Red Bull didn't gamble, they just had massive massive luck. Verstappen wasn't getting near Hamilton even on new tires.

Mercedes gambled by not pitting Hamilton a second time.

A gamble suggests having something to lose.

It's like criticising a football team in the lead for not also sending their goalie up for a corner in the 90th minute.

A gamble based on the regulations. Which were then not followed.

I think Mercedes made the right decision, in retrospect. What they couldn't forsee is Masi literally making up the rules to engineer a one-lap race to the finish.

I agree. They did the right thing. At the time I thought it was a mistake, but I was wrong. But Masi then fucked them.

The result is never going to be overturned though. But nothing about that was fair. Max went ahead under yellow conditions after Masi made a ruling that essentially fixed the result in his favor. Nothing about that was fair or sporting. But they will never admit it or overturn it.

From the few races I have seen, I think NASCAR does a green, white, checker in that situation. 3 laps out of a yellow flag & all lapped cars lass to the back. That’s a much better way to finish, IMO.
It’s what F1 could do, were it not for the issue with fuel. The races are run to pretty much finish with an empty tank.
In NASCAR they refuel every time they pit.

Nothing dramatic about it tbh. We’ve seen F1 severely harmed today. This isn’t about which racer you like, it’s about the integrity of the sport.
This. I’m a neutral between the 2 fan wise although Max is a prick of a human & a danger as a driver. But I really wouldnt care about the result had he won fairly. Fact is he did not. The race director handed him the title making a ruling that doesnt follow the rules of the sport.

I’m not a fan of any driver but if I had to choose one, I’d choose Ricciardo. He seems to be a very fun dude.

Mercedes had no choice there. If they pit, Max stays out, and gains track position and the lead.
Well, they could have decided differently and given Lewis new tires and backed him to get past Max, who would probably need to pit again. But I agree they made the right call.
