I reckon we don't see or hear of half of the work Franco does for us behind closed doors. Last summer, we heard all sorts of stories about his "little black book" which contained connections to all across the world, we saw the efforts of his leg work with pictures and rumors coming in about him flying off to Spain and Italy to negotiate for Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela whilst Levy flew off to Ajax to negotiate for Eriksen. Levy clearly has faith in Baldini, retaining his services amongst two manager changes and amid rumors that Franco offered his resignation after AVB's departure.

His presence at the club has been hugely beneficial in my opinion and with the latest transfer window on the horizon, stories have again been popping up regarding the signings of young star such as Musa Yahaya and Ismail Azzaoui, some believe Franco's fabled connections have played a hand in such moves. At the moment, we are led to believe he is in Spain, specifically in Barcelona where he is conducting a meeting between himself, Levy and our new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, in order to identify transfer targets as well as construct a strategy for the next season and future transfer windows.

His striking figure and Italian heritage have also led to many funny stories between Spurs fans of him and Levy running Spurs like a Mafia and contract negotiations frequently involving the player's and his agent's families being threatened and held hostage by Baldini & Levy.

I always feel sorry for the likes of Baldini when they have the likes of Redknapp Jr criticizing their efforts and calling for their heads. Baldini's efforts clearly have benefited our club, his legwork and connections have clearly helped major transfers such as Soldado's to be completed a lot sooner than they would otherwise. He's made Levy's job a lot easier and has taken a fair bit of pressure off Levy whilst also becoming the perfect middle man between the chairmen and the manager who will always have differing opinion's on transfers.

I wanted to create this thread to thank Baldini for his efforts and I hope to see him at the club for many years to come! Thank you Franco!

Kind Regards Luke Baldini :)

On a serious note though I agree, he is doing a good job, lets hope he can bring in some unknown stars this summer

Surely also means an end to the ITK debate of whether or not we have to wait for Levy to get back from holiday in Florida which he seems to do in every transfer window!

I like Baldini and think it is far too early to judge him on his body of work so far in any case, certainly seemed like he made the deals quicker than we normally do.

I think he has been wrongly slagged off by many after last summer. This is because they are too quick to judge. The Beatles will come good for sure, especially Lamela. We were three points short of the previous tally by "Bale FC". This was despite signing 7 "flops" and putting a guy in charge who had never managed before and liked to play wingers as holding midfielders.

I haven't seen much to appreciate yet, not Baldini's fault. He just seems to be nothing more than a negotiator. I'm pretty sure Poch wasn't his choice.

I hope he spent the last year getting to know British players. My only criticism of last summer was all 7 were foreigners with no prem exp.

other than that they were all exactly the sort of signings we all wanted!!

baldini certainly has pedigree so as long as there is a smooth relationship between the board, baldini and poch lets hope our squad can be maximised by identifying (and landing) the targets poch and baldini are/have been tracking.

this is a wonderful opportunity for baldini to prove his worth during the transfer window and also for poch to state the types of player he wants.

We should stick with the plan, Baldini has good connections worldwide and part of the club structure moving forward.

Don't downplay the importance of the negotiator in our transfer dealings.

During Levy's tenure it has been shown time and again that we are much more decisive and successful in the market when we have a technical director in that role.

If we can achieve a harmonious relationship between manager and director to the extent that the director's role can be descirbed as merely the 'negotiator' getting deals across the line then that's a huge success in my book.

Franco is such a dude with his silver hair and fine taste in wine. I'd keep him just for his swag.

If they've already proved themselves for just one season in the prem then their price becomes over inflated like benteke or lallana.
We always try to get them before they explode. Soldado being the odd anomaly

I agree with that bit in bold but for Baldini to be there to merely negotiate is not a success in my book. Last summer a lot of money was there and some deals had been worked on before Baldini got there.
At the moment I see Baldini as a glorified secretary closing deals. Levy can negotiate deals, he was doing it before Baldini got there. I want to see Baldini doing the sort of job Arnesen was doing.

What is the plan? Keeping sacking managers until we can find one that brings us CL football?

The whole principle behind the DOF structure is you don't change the DOF, so the ridiculous line you just trotted out about he's not Poch's choice is just that, ridiculous, the DOF has to understand the style of football and appoint a new Head Coach based on that style of play, buy players based on that style of play, keep some continuity.
