The whole principle behind the DOF structure is you don't change the DOF, so the ridiculous line you just trotted out about he's not Poch's choice is just that, ridiculous, the DOF has to understand the style of football and appoint a new Head Coach based on that style of play, buy players based on that style of play, keep some continuity.
So you think Poch is Baldini's choice?

He would without doubt have had a say, it is how the DOF structure should work, and the style of play he produced at Southampton is very close to what the majority of people thought we would get from the sexy ginger wonder, indeed i would say the majority of those new signings will fit in well.

I don't believe for a second that Levy follows the principle of the DOF structure to the letter though, obviously way too much of a control freak for that.

Is that a yes or a no?

Don't downplay the importance of the negotiator in our transfer dealings.

During Levy's tenure it has been shown time and again that we are much more decisive and successful in the market when we have a technical director in that role.

If we can achieve a harmonious relationship between manager and director to the extent that the director's role can be descirbed as merely the 'negotiator' getting deals across the line then that's a huge success in my book.

Arshavin?

Seeing as i am not privy to the conversations i have no idea whose choice it is, it should be Baldini's appointment, that doesn't distract from my initial point though Mullers, under the DOF structure Pochettino doesn't come in and chose a new DOF, you can't pin that on the bald eagle.

I didn't suggest that he should.

I think he has been wrongly slagged off by many after last summer. This is because they are too quick to judge. The Beatles will come good for sure, especially Lamela. We were three points short of the previous tally by "Bale FC". This was despite signing 7 "flops" and putting a guy in charge who had never managed before and liked to play wingers as holding midfielders.

Nothing new there with some Spurs fans, we do it all the time especially with players.

I hope he spent the last year getting to know British players. My only criticism of last summer was all 7 were foreigners with no prem exp.

other than that they were all exactly the sort of signings we all wanted!!

Erm, don't forget Baldini spent 4 years as Assistant Manager of the England national team (2008-12).

He certainly knows British players. It's just like the rest of us, he doesn't rate this generation very much.

Levy's fault. Avb's fault. Tims fault. Poch's fault. The players fault. The home fans fault ...

At what point do we start looking at the smart man in the smart suit who (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) is ultimately responsible for our transfers, & who was handed enough money to 'buy the Beatles' & seemingly failed

I suppose when we admit they're bad players, which I'm not sure we're willing to do yet.

Take someone like Sigurdsson, a real talent for my money, had two seasons where he never quite got going for us, left and is now looking quality again. The club is rotten. It doesn't seem to matter who we buy.

If it wasn't so sad this thread would be quite amusing.

The title of this thread should now be Baldini - the man who took Spurs from the Champions League to mid table mediocrity. I just can't believe how poor we've become in a couple of years. We've lost world class players in Bale and Modric (not Baldini's fault) and replaced them with very average players (Baldini's buys).

We've blown £100 million on players that would struggle to get in any of the top 10 teams in the PL.

You look at what Southampton have done and realize that we should have been buying their scouts and DOF rather than their manager. Southampton were in league 2 a few season ago!

While we try and come to terms with blowing £100 million and having to endure these expensive flops week after week I do take some solace in the fact that players that have cost us nothing continue to perform somewhat better than our exotic flops.

Bentaleb, Mason and Harry Kane. All youth players and arguably Mason and Kane are out performing many of their so called illustrious big money team mates.

And Baldini had nothing to do with this.

Who is the main person responsible for that?

Wasn't there a lot of Roma fans saying how good Baldini was at wasting a lot of money on average players?

Looks like very littles changed since he moved to us.
