It's to do with profile.
For instance, Arsenal offered Raphina more money than Barcelona but he still chose to move to Barce due to their prestige. Unfortunately when we're up against these elite clubs we're always going to miss out. We just need to be smarter with identifying targets earlier that will improve the team.
The catch however is that our manager currently wants established players that can slot right in and have an impact. There's certainly still targets we can identify and move for before our rivals.
I actually have loved our past few windows under FP/AC. There's something that I adore about the fact that Conte wants X player and some of our fanbase will throw fits screaming that that player is not good enough, only for the player to turn around and be good enough. I think if we do win something with the "island of misfit toys" approach it will make it that much sweeter for myself while I watch our rivals spend astronomical fees for players that aren't much better...
Kulu and Bentancur are great examples of this. I've been pleased with Lenglet, although I was convinced by others he'd be the worst signing in our history. It seems that FP/AC were on to something with Amrabat as well, as he's shining on the biggest stage so far. So can't wait to see who the next underwhelming link or two is haha
