Weren't they struggling last year to show us that they could afford Bale? Plus they still have to make payments for him and also would then have to make payments for Suarez which would be just as high if not higher.

They sold Ozil and Higuain though, maybe a few more? I think they'd made the Bale money back within a few months of his signing although obviously we still have to wait for them to make the yearly payments. Looking back it was just wishful thinking on our parts that they wouldn't be able to afford him, lesson learned.

It doesn't mean Liverpool will go through the exact same thing and they might well keep him, but for them to rule it out at this stage of the summer is pretty foolish.

But these new incomes they have also have to cover other expenses, not just the purchasing of a new player

I think 140 million Euro TV money and a fuck off huge stadium covers this, and merchandise worldwide is probably off the scale., i don't think Real Madrid have to get the Electric turned back on any time soon.

Allegedly. More likely pleading poverty to try and get Levy to drop the asking price by €15m.
I really dont think Levy would decrease our asking price because other team couldn't afford

They are in, I think I read, nearly half a billion euros worth of debt, they have huge expenses to pay off such as payment of players and player wages, cost of running everything is also very high and on top of this the FFP rules that are coming into play will mean they will definitely have to watch out. Not saying it couldn't happen, I am just saying it will be very difficult for the club to come up with the money I reckon Liverpool would want for Suarez

They could afford Saurez comfortably, look at how much they will gain again in image rights once he signs, they could sell Morata or another midfielder that is surplus and raise another £15-£20m.
Finding cash won't be a problem. The same thing was trotted out about Bale last summer.

Of course he wouldn't. Worth a try, though.

'Por favor, Signor Levy, we cannot even afford chorizo for the board-room tapas! Think of our special relationship!'

It was trotted out because we had ITK saying needed proof that RM could pay. It isn't as simple as oh our income is X Amount, so we can use this to spend straight away on X player. It doesn't work like that. They may be able to afford him but will have to do offloading which will probably weaken squad but still won't be as comfortable as some people think.

This is not true. Last summer absolutely not, not even interested.
I posted some quotes in this thread from an interview in which Florentino said that Benzemá and Khedira will be renewed as agreed last summer, and the Club doesn't want another situation similar to last summer when we had two starting 9's competing for the same spot. This was his reply to a question about L. Suárez. It indicates nothing but in the same way there's nothing that indicates interest in him.

Toela making stuff up to paint Liverpool in a better light on another team's forum? Never!

Ancelotti gave away few hints about Madrid's interest in Liverpool striker Suarez.
"It is difficult to improve what we have in attack," he said, in reference to Madrid's front three of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, who scored a combined 101 goals in all competitions last season.

"Suarez is a fantastic player but it would be a lack of respect to talk about signings at this stage."

First mention of Suarez from Ancelotti in the press. Even if it is just a standard line, it's unlikely he'd talk about him if they weren't interested and Suarez is one of only a few players who could improve them. If he has a good world cup the heat will really be on.

If he goes he will rip the Spanish league to shreds IMO.

Isn't that more or less what Ancelotti said at the beginning of the Bale saga last season?

Suárez's been a mess in every club he played for and I don't know why they are refusing to come to terms with the fact that he tried to engineer a move away to Arsenal. Last summer Atlético were interested in him, right after they sold Falcao, Gil Marín went to England to get a replacement but they were out-priced by Liverpool and Aston Villa(Benteke). Deportes Cuatro(reliable) are saying they are gonna try again for Suárez this summer :D

EDIT: Link is in Spanish sorry. I couldn't find one in English.

I've was in Madrid for work last month and then again last week. The feeling wasn;t there before but now the Real fans are talking abut Suarez as a definite target.. Benzema to Scum would recoup half the money apparently ..

Englishmen will hate him even more now. I really can see him leaving to go to Madrid/Barcelona.

The guy has just (virtually) dumped England out of the cup single handed, then goes to the press to slag off those who hated him for everything he's done prior to that.

He's spent the last year keeping his head down and slowly building up the respect he didn't have before, and now's he's dicked the national squad and insulted the fans... Next season, if he stays at 'pool, is going to be fun for him.

His character feeds on it IMO, if he stays he won't be fazed one bit by any fan abuse.

Suarez is the player we love to hate but we'd love to have him playing for us (Spurs and England)

Anyway he won't be in the Prem next season if you believe the latest rumours ;)
