Oh I thought by going forward you meant attacking - lol!

Unforunately we aren't the kind of club that buys superstars, we create them. Which is more fun, right? But much harder to do and be successful in this league/europe
Oh, right, ha ha! I could have used a clearer turn of phrase I guess in the context!

Just thinking the only superstars I can think of that we've signed in my time as a Spurs fan are Gazza (cant remember if he already had superstar status at Newcastle), Klinsmann and Van Der Vaart, the others became world class, mostly in their second seasons apart from Berbatov who took about 2 games to show what he would become.

Eriksen
Lamela
Paulinho
Pritchard

They are the players I think who could step up in the next few seasons and lead the team although I'm not putting any pressure on Pritchard, he just looks a bit special. The other three are all capable of scoring 15+ in the league so keeping them together will be vital.

Of course, who knows what's going on with Lamela but he does have the ability to become our best player and Eriksen in a few years when he's 24 will be the new Sneijder, this is my prediction and I'm sticking with it. :D

To be fair we have created a few in the last 10 years, would be better if we could keep them though.
As someone in a post above said its should be more about us playing as a team not 11 players playing as individuals

I can only think of one - Bale. Who are the others?

Not a concern.

Theres a decent chance that eriksen, lamela and even Townsend could become special attacking talents given the right management and direction

Few clubs get to buy ready-made superstars.

We have been fortunate in many ways with the likes of Berbatov, Modric, VDV and Bale. We suffered a down period when Berbatov left and Modric and Bale were settling in and improving their game.

We are going through the same now.

Lamela came with a big reputation as did Paulinho a slightly lesser extent Eriksen.

By next season we might have given them 3 different managers in the year they've been here so we're not making it easy for them but I think one of them could become a great player, hopefully for us.

Berbatov and Modric, both were highly rated but neither had really made their mark yet. Wenger said Modric was too light weight for the league remember and Man Utd didn't fancy Berbs untill he joined us.

Berba? Eh?? He was a Champions League finalist four years BEFORE we bought him.

Modric - Already a superstar in my book in Euro 2008 by being instrumental for Croatia topping the qualifying group, including pissing all over England at Wembley, then scoring in the opening tournament game against the hosts and beating the mighty Germans in the next. All of Europe knew him and many wanted him. We gave him games but was already top quality which Ramos temporarily tried to ruin by playing him in deep midfield and then dropping him completely.

We haven't created any superstars since ledley, apart from Bale who cost 10 mill or something?

But this is what I'm thinking about, we have to find those players a la berbatov, sturridge, Suarez, etc. 10-15 mill, not undiscovered but still not had their complete breakthrough.

We do have some exciting players, but I am not sure any of them will be that good.

Of the worlds best today, most of them are very physical, lightening fast, excellent technique and very good finishers.

Lamela seems a bit weak and not to fast.
Eriksen the same.
Paulinho don't have any of these qualities (more like a lampard)

Don't get me wrong, These Could be real class, but most likely not someone who can carry us to glory...

Sell all your best players, replace them with inferior ones and be a worse team shocker.

A superstar is good, but not as good as a young crop of B++ or a combination of B++ and A-- players all maturing within a year of two of one another. Just like the Beckham, Scholes and Nevilles lot together with Butt and May.

Being a Spurs fan I was obviously aware of Berba's past success but as I said, he wasn't yet seen as being a worldy. I don't think we'd have signed him for £10m if any other top team had thought he could perform as he did in the Premier League.

Modric took his game to a new level with us, he said as much in an interview last week. It took him a while to get up to speed and a certain poster here even made the argument that Malbranque was the better player :D

I don't see how anyone could say they were superstars when we signed them, they had it in them but still needed the right platform to demonstrate their talents. Modric was about to sign for Newcastle, I wonder how his career would have panned out if that had gone through?

Eriksen for sure could be that player. Good experience for a lad of 21 and has shown good potential this year. Needs to develop physically. In three years time we could be looking at a top, top player.

Not seen enough of Lamela to make a definite call. If he can replicate the type of form he was showing at Roma/River Plate in the PL and develop physically then we could be looking a top player. Hope he fulfills his potential, he looks amazing on YouTube :)
