The need for a superstar

having a player that can score "on his own" isn't a pre-requisite for being a world class player in my opinion..

we are in the business of creating top players. The odd one from the academy that has come through, or buying them and developing them. Bale is the only player that I think hit "world class" with us....

Dare I say it..Judas... top player when he left.

King... top player.. would have been world class without the injuries..

Carrick - one of the best deep lying play makers in the premiership at the time we sold him. Which also happened to be when English prem sides were beginning to dominate the later stages of the CL...so arguably world class..?

Berba progressed at Spurs... was class when we signed him, and built on that good form he had in Germany.

Modric - Agree - was awesome when we signed him... Spurs gave him the stage to show the rest of Europe that he can do it and mix it with the best, although had shown this on the International stage, some people take a dim view on judging players based on a handful of games. (Poborsky!)...but at 16.5mm.. he wasnt exactly an unknown!

Bale... well.. nothing needs to be said there.

In my view.. Rafa was the only World Class player we have signed, who was at his peak...

Lamela and Eriksen have the potential to be.. and no doubt if they do reach the heights of Bale/Modric they too will be sold on to a larger club who come calling.. for the time being, until we can establish ourselves as a regular CL team, and get the stadium built.. we are at the correct level when it comes to buying/developing players...

I'd rather we first got a coherent, cohesive team where everyone knows what role is expected of them and they show a degree of understanding with each other out on the pitch, personally.

Has been said but Eriksen and Lamela for me.

They could easily develop into top tier PL players, at least.

We just need the right sort of manager who is going to nurture them correctly.

we don't need superstars just players with a winning mentality, something we have lacked for donkeys years

Lolz

But no seriously it would be silly to write him off when he is the same age of the other 2 and has put in some decent performances under avb

Carrick has never been anywhere near world class in my opinion, but that's just me

Ledley King, without the injuries, would have probably been the best cb I've seen

Judas, as much as I despise him, was fantastic

For me, and he was very good when we signed him, I haven't seen a better player than Modric at White Hart Lane. Sure, Bale was great and did things not many can do, and I loved Rafa, but I watched Modric so intently, sometimes ignoring the game in the process, just to see the little things he did. What a player he was/is

I don't think there's anyone with world class potential coming through our ranks at the moment, but others can judge that better than me, but there are some top players in europe that we should be keeping close eyes on, especially in Germany and Holland

We need to take a page out of Athletico Madrids book. They don't have a superstar, in fact they've sold their superstars like we have over the years. They are a collective team who all work incredibly hard for eachother, so well organised and everyone knows their role. On paper we look stronger but we have not looked like a team much this season. I don't think we need a player like Bale although of course it would be great. We need a manager who is going to pull this group of individuals together and playing as a team. Attacking as a unit, defending as a unit and fighting for eachother.

I don't think we were a great team last season either. It was the quality of Bale that got us off the hook a lot last season. I think Adebayor is doing almost the same this half of the season too. On current form he is world class but we're still looking like a bunch of strangers at times.

We need to be able to succeed without superstars cos as soon as one of our players reaches that level they're off unfortunatley

Modric's not a superstar nor was King, being a worldclass player doesn't make you a supertstar. Superstars are recognised by people who have no interest in football

I'd settle for a leader on the pitch at the moment. It was pointed out to me by a Chelsea fan at the game that if It had been them who'd gone down to 10 men, Terry would have rallied the team. IMO that's a bigger problem at the moment than a lack of star quality.

Don't you mean a manager who knows what the fuck he is doing and a director who can actually support that fucking manager?

I think it's fairly clear now that the August transfer window was a complete cock up. We have a squad that's weak in just about every area, which is pretty impressive given the amount spent.
