The need for a superstar

Thought about this in the early part of the season After we lost Bale.

We should be more solid After losing 1 significant player, and getting 7 new ones.
Didn't turn out great though.

Okay, we were a bit unlucky: paulinho didn't turn the world around, lamela haven't had any minutes, Eriksen has been on and off and Soldado choked.

It turns out we are now a team without any world class players. Adebayor you say? He is very good, but not that good. He doesn't take the ball from the halfway-line and score goals all on his own.
Nobody in our team does that.

So let us look at the other teams:
Chelsea
Hazard has been brilliant in a somewhat struggling Chelsea. They won a lot of their games with 1 goal, and Hazard had a big say in those games, especially in the first half of the season. Chelsea have several other potential players, but not many have stand out this year.
Liverpool
They have a worse Squad Than us, and even a worse starting 11. But They have suarez and sturridge. They grow confidence that Even if They get 1 or 2 down They know these two will score and probably more Than once.
City
They have a very good team, and better Than us and most others, but the rely quite much on Aguero. When he was out They struggled much more.
Arsenal
Ozil was their superstar, but as he has faded the whole team is fading. They are starting to look vulnerable.
United
They are probably the one team with such players in Rooney and Van Persie, but They still struggle. Both of these were out for a number of games, and van P has been out most of the season.

My belief is that we need a new Bale, or similar, to be able to make it in the coming years. Only problem is that we wount attract such players. This means that we need excellent scoring and find someone undisvovered.

Maybe Koloplyanka Could be such a player?

Hopefully one or more of the current crop will emerge as a superstar in the near future

Look at Ramsey at Arsenal - players can progress rapidly and I think too many of our players are being written off too soon by a lot of our fans due to the poor season we are having and the negative impact that has on the moral of the fan base

We have two future superstars in Lamela and Eriksen, with the hope that Soldado will fire them in next season.

This. Alot of our players have been written off, but I think with proper management, the likes of Eriksen, Paulinho, Lamela, Capoue and Vlad could be forces in the PL.

Soldado, I don't think it will work for here, and won't be surprised if he goes to fill a Diego Costa sized hole in Madrid in the the summer. Chadli, is nothing more than a squad player.

Sadly it's never nice to hear reality.

& given that arguably RM's two most important players going forward were created by us to a greater or lesser degree we haven't been doing a bad job on creating them. It's hanging onto them that's problematic!

Lamela and Eriksen will hopefully develop into our superstars. There is absolutely no way we can afford to buy any already established superstars.

And we have a winner.

The problem is that some of those teams have players that you haven't considered as superstars in their current squad, but would be in ours.

To be fair we have created a few in the last 10 years, would be better if we could keep them though.
As someone in a post above said its should be more about us playing as a team not 11 players playing as individuals

We don't have the ability to run out and buy a superstar, that just isn't how the club is designed. We have Eriksen who looks to develop into a superstar and potentially Lamela if he comes back to the form he was in at Roma.

Just as important a question as how do we replace a superstar may be how do we replace the leaders we have lost.

In the past couple summers we lost Bale, Modric and VDV and needless to say we all worried about how we replace them.

However we also lost Parker, Gallas and Ledley...and unfortunately we didn't seem to ask the question of how we were going to replace them.

A superstar can lift a team, leaders on the field/clubhouse can help lift the performance of a team without a superstar or at least stabilize that team. We can't afford to buy a superstar, we can afford to create them. When we create superstars we can help them develop as well as stabilize the squad simply by ensuring we have high character leaders in the club.

Currently, of course. Looking to the future, not really. Hence I said going forward

Oh I thought by going forward you meant attacking - lol!

Unforunately we aren't the kind of club that buys superstars, we create them. Which is more fun, right? But much harder to do and be successful in this league/europe

Not a concern.

Theres a decent chance that eriksen, lamela and even Townsend could become special attacking talents given the right management and direction
