So one less team to worry about for 4th, I think Everton will beat Newcastle on the final day anyway. I reckon we will stumble over the finish line in 4th place thanks to other teams!

Has anybody worked out (roughly) who we could be facing as possible worst case scenario's should we indeed finish fourth?

I know there are further pemutations but just curious.
I think, not entirely sure, we will play one of these teams.

Or 1/5 winners from this lot:
  • Braga
  • Runners-up of 2011–12 Russian Premier League
  • Runners-up of 2011–12 Ukrainian Premier League
  • Feyenoord
  • Runners-up of 2011–12 Turkish Süper Lig
    • Winners of European competition play-offs of 2011–12 Superleague Greece
    • Runners-up of 2011–12 Danish Superliga
    • Runners-up of 2011–12 Belgian Pro League
    • Runners-up of 2011–12 Romanian Liga I
    • Motherwell
So worst case scenario could possibly be Malaga (big spenders) or Ath Madrid. Or one from Lazio, Inter, Napoli or Udinese. Maybe even a return to Lille for Hazard;)

I'm really not sure, that was just a 5 minute job, I'll look into it some more. Although I'm sure I remember we could have faced some italian team last time. I'll look into it.

Yeah I am pretty sure we would avoid the likes of Inter or Athletico due to both probably have the highest points or whatever but Malaga probably don't have many?

Malaga have no coefficient so it's possible we could play them assuming we both finish 4th. Lille also have a low rating so we may face them, it all depends on who's in the round, but we will be seeded for sure. Borussia mcglachachabhbcabehbcbach also have no coefficient so another one there

I am completely amazed at that Chelsea team! Di Matteo obviously has more belief in Spurs and Newcastle than we do. I really don't get it- yes some players may be really tired but if the importance of the liverpool game was bigged up I'm sure the likes of Cech, Mata and Cole could have played with Lamps and Drog to come on after 60 mins. They could have then rested them all against blackburn at home giving them a week and a half rest before the champ league final. For us to have to keep an eye on the Chelsea score on sunday aswell, especially when they inevitably take the lead, would really give us extra nerves- they would have got 4th even if we got a draw. Really think they have blown a massive opportunity for 4th.

I am delighted with that result - I was more worried about chelsea than newcastle before now!

It's nice to have the out of the league running, though i was never that worried about them overhauling us.

But it's all about the CL, it's the one trophy above all others they crave. I really hope we fluke third on the final day and then don't have to give two hoots.

Blimey the last day is going to be stressful enough before we even get to the CL final.

Daughter, who's 6, of a friend who supports Bayern said to me very recently (in German & before the Semi's of the CL):
"why don't you support Bayern?"
Me: "Because i support Spurs"
"Do you ever want bayern to win"
Me: "Not usually, I grew up for a short while in Hamburg, so when i do support a German team, it's them"
"Will you ever support Bayern?"
Me: "unlikely"

Emailed her dad the other day... "Tell your daughter I want Bayern to win the CL!"

Why were you not worried about them? Had they won yesterday, they would have been in the exact same position as newcastle in which they have to win to get 4th and if they win we have to win. Chelsea v Blackburn at home is a different proposition of Newcastle going to Everton! Also, as has been said before, Everton would not be as up for it if Chelsea had won as they would be sure to be ahead of Liverpool.

Don't know, just didn't see them being able to pull off two wins with the CL final coming up... always believed they would slip up due to their concentration being elsewhere. Glad for once I was right...

Above all, this is key.

They are unable to overhaul us with something like 17 games in 58 days - once they lost to Newastle, Chelsea gave up on CL via the League.

2 cups and back in via the 'winning it backdoor' would be on any manager's mind.

It is a gamble but a safer one than trying to do both cups and overhaul 3 teams.

Yep totally agree... a one off game, a cup final... anything can happen and on top of it a last chance for most of the Chelsea pensioners to get their hands on the CL trophy.

I really fear they could do it, only saving grace is so many of their 1st team are suspended.

Get 3rd and it won't matter, but that is no the Spurs way is it... gah!!!

Just talking to two gooner ST holders in the office…they are absolutely bricking it about Sunday, pretty sure WBA will get a result against them.

Also every gooner going seems to be raging about the Spurs tribute on their new kits. :D

I just think they were closer then they thought to getting 4th. Was just the Liverpool game they needed and the CL final is still not for another week and a half. I dont think resting their players yesterday would make much difference for the final and if anything now the heavy defeat and comical defending will do more damage.
