City certainly have the upper hand now and they have more fire power and match winners than us at present.

They are of course always likely to go on a 2-3 game dip of form as we are likely to win 3 straight games (against anyone) so we are not out of it by a long stretch.

I will admit though are chances of CL football for next season have been dealt a huge blow by failing to take wins from any of the last 4 games and drawing blanks in the last 2 especially and I will say it is very much City's to lose right now (but remember they are more than capable of imploding and losing it)

Onwards and upwards we have the biggest game most have us are old enough to have ever seen on Tuesday night so now is not a time for doom and gloom it is one to be very excited and eager for the next game COYS

Even though we clearly @@@@ up big time in the last 2 transfer windows by not signing a striker, i dont think anyone could have predicted such a colossal lack of form from our strikers especially Defoe.

I've always said that we can't rely on Bale and VDV to score our goals. Now, we're suffering from the loss of Bale and VDV of not scoring (injured). I still have faith in us to finish 4th, even in my heart I know realistically we aren't going to but hopefully Defoe can kick start his goal scoring form like he did last year a run of goals for first 6 months then stopped, but now we need him to score from the game against Madrid to all games after that.

Put Krancjar up front he'll probably nab one each game ...

What I can't understand is why, when I was sure we wouldn't be able to beat Wigan on Saturday, I am convinced beyond doubt that we will beat Real Madrid in the Champions League.
I can't see us making top four now, I really can't, and to be honest I'd rather come 6th than 5th just to avoid the Europa Thursday - Sunday games curse.

But if one of the Manc clubs wins the FA Cup, then 6th will also qualify for Europa Cup... and I can't really see us finishing 7th, can you?

no...wrong....bolton or stoke qualify...

I can't see what all the fuss is, the bigger picture is far more important, CL or not, next season we will still have a good side hopefully challenging for the prem title, can we stop fucking moaning, these are good times trust me, i have seen many shit ones to know.....we need a proper striker thats all.

To be perfectly honest, if we don't qualify for the CL I would prefer not to compete in the EL.

If we can hold on to our players and have no European distractions next season, I really think we would have a shot at the title.

Don't get me wrong I want us to qualify for the CL again but, if we didn't, 6th place would be absolutely fine by me!

If that is the case then I agree but I'm not actually convinced that all our top players would stay. I could certainly see why Bale, Modric and VdV would be tempted to look elsewhere if we aren't at the top table again next season. Added to that Harry could well be off at the end of next season if not before and they must be starting to consider their futures.

I hope I'm wrong and I'd like to think that our players would honour the new contracts they've recently signed, but football isn't like that these days.

And as for only needing a striker...true but how long has that been the case?!

I can see where your coming from...but why can't we play our second string in the group stages of the EL and then go for it torwards the end?

If we do not qualify for the CL next season we will have shot ourselves in the foot as City will be able to flex their financial muscle and bring in some quality mercernaries to bolster their squad next season, leaving us unable to capitalise on great run in the CL this season.

Also we currently are more than just a top striker away from mounting a challenge in the PL, the last few games have made in abundantly clear that we also need to add more pace to our squad to allow us to get through periods without Lennon and Bale, which we struggle to do currently.

no... wrong... they don't!
FA Cup runners-up qualifying for Europa League if FA Cup winners have already qualified for it (or for the CL) was scrapped a few years ago. As the FA's own website says:

"The team placed fifth in the Premier League automatically qualifies for the UEFA Europa League, and the sixth and seventh-placed teams can also qualify, depending on the winners of the two domestic cup competitions. If one of the cup winners qualifies for Europe through their league position, the sixth-placed team in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League."

So, Brum have one EL spot, 5th placed EPL team will have another and the 3rd EL spot will go to the FA Cup winners - UNLESS one of the Manc teams win the Cup, in which case that 3rd spot goes to the 6th-placed team.

I don't know why this comes up every year.

If we end up in the Europa next season we should keep some of our younger players instead of sending them out on loan, would give them some nice European experience, and not tire out our entire first team with a total mickey mouse cup. It really isn't the end of the world if we dont make champions league, as we have a bloody good team, and it looks as if we are going to keep our best players this summer. Providing we don't make the same mistakes again in the transfer window, I see no reason why this current set of players with added strength up front can't challenge for the league next season, irrespective of who city may sign.
