Will amend the title over the course of the season, but thought it’d be good to get this thread in before we kicked a ball.

Arsenal and Liverpool both off the blocks with opening day wins, albeit in matches they’d have expected to win. Hopefully we can do the same tomorrow.

Give me top 4 and a trophy. Must get back into Champions League. Think Jose will get us into at least 3rd with the right backing.

I think when you add up the amount of games we will have we will get very fatigued as the season goes on, unless we bring in a few good players to bolster the squad.

The squad isn't up to the standard for top 4 in my opinion. It really depends on the signings we make. I'm going with 5th or 6th as I just feel Europa will take it's toll and unless we make top quality signings then I think we'll still be short on quality.

Really think if Jose is still Jose that he should be able to coach circles around OGS, Lampard, and Arteta.

We’ve got Rolls Royce players in Kane, Son, Lloris, and Toby. Then massive potential in Bergwijn, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Sanchez, Dier, and Alli. Love the stability that Doherty and Hojbjerg should provide alongside solid role players like Davies, Moura, Winks, and Sissoko.

One or two more signings and if we can finally have some decent luck regarding injuries, I think it’s our best and deepest squad since 2016/2017.

People/pundits who have ignored Spurs for top4 keep forgetting how awful a season we had.
Last season, we had contract issues for players(Toby,Jan,Eriksen). Players falling out with manager. Manager rumoured to not attending team trainings. Sacking of a manager after terrible run of games for 10 months in league. Spate of injuries, incredible bad luck for new manager, team down on confidence.

Since Lockdown, we are more focussed as a team. We kept 4 cleansheets in 9 games. 2 points per game in post lockdown, which would be 76 in a 38 game season which would mean a top4 finish.

I am convinced we will get top4 this season...as long as we get a proper striker in next 3 weeks - infact I would back us for 3rd spot in league. A well focussed Spurs squad, with Kane,Son,Dele,Lucas,Bergwijn,Lo Celso would do well. If Ndombele also kicks on & performs we will be unstoppable this season

We had a bad season last year but we are still a very very good side. If we can hit the ground running we can be there or there abouts in the race for the top four places. I think things will be much closer this year so it’s all up for grabs.

5th.

But it really does depend on what happen in the transfer market.

There are glaring holes still.

Although its likely we'll end up with a capable striker it still wouldn't surprise me if we didn't sign one.

And creatively we are short. So as its stands. 5th.

Last season our injuries were absolutely obscene. Kane, Davies, Lloris, Sessegnon, GLC, Son and Sissoko all had serious injury issues that kept them out for weeks or even months. It was utterly ridiculous.

I still think we need a new left back, creative mid and striker.

But assuming we have much better luck with injuries I think we'll be challenging for top four.

City, Liverpool and Chelsea are all better than us at the moment. Lampard has a lot to prove but their squad is insane now.

We'll see how far Aubemayang can carry Arsenal, and how far dodgy pens can carry United.

Leicester could go either way.

Wolves will surely be even stronger.

If we added Bale and a target man (Vinicius/Diallo) it would 100% be our strongest and most well rounded squad that I can remember. Defensively we've been stronger in the past but in 2020 and under Mourinho I feel quite happy with our options.

I assume even if Aurier and Foyth leave at least one if not both get replaced.

Certainly our squad would be big enough to compete on all fronts, as we should have at least 2 quality players for each position.

We could have a second XI that looks something like this.

Gazza/Hart

Aurier
Sanchez
Tanganga/Kim/Foyth
Sessegnon/Cirkin

Winks
Ndombele

Lucas
Dele
Bergwijn

Vinicius/Diallo

That's probably a top half PL side on it's own and still allows us to sell Rose, Lamela, Sissoko for example who I haven't included.

If we avoid serious injuries to key players I think we can surprise a few this season. I certainly hope so, would love Mourinho to succeed here now.

I think we'll be really strong defensively this season. PEH is a real game changer for me, someone who's going to give us that steel in midfield, and Dier is my tip for player of the season under Jose's influence.

Dele is another one who could have a big season.

Dier and Dele excelling, like Mourinho's influence with Terry and Lampard.

Kane stays fit for the majority of the season and I'm going for 3rd.

Think we will be in a race with Leicester, Wolves and Everton for sixth, and our extra games will count against us, and in this season where 9 months of games are being crammed into 8, think that will ultimately be reason we miss out on Top 6.

Lots of rotation will be needed, we have seen time and again that our second string is not great, and if we don't rotate will have serious injury problems again.

Read any of these types of threads before a season starts and most air on the negative side, even when we were finishing regularly in the top 4 it was the same.

As per odds though, we have 1 in 2 chance to finish outside Top 6 (even money), 1 in 4 to finish 5th or 6th, and 1 in 4 to finish Top 4 (actually slightly less than 1 in 4 as can get 7/2).

So comparing voting to realism (which is roughly what current odds would show)

We should have 25% chance of finishing Top 4, but a whopping 59% have voted that way so far
We should have 25% chance of finishing 5th or 6th, but 34% have gone for that option
We should have 50% chance of finishing below 6th, but only 7% went that way.

I don't think it is most erring on the negative side at all, I think most are way too optimistic with Spurs blinkers on, as you can see from those numbers.

It was the same when we were regularly finishing in the top 4.

And, perhaps, more importantly Mourinho didn't have a full season, he saved Poch''s car crash of a one.

We're fourth, from when Mourinho came in and have since strengthened key areas, not to mention a complete fucking nightmare on the injury situation and our record signing struggling.

Spurs blinkers my arse.

Explain the massive variation between reality (the odds at every bookmaker up and down the country, based on what people are betting on) and the voting on this board.
It is 100% Spurs blinkers on, there literally is no other explanation for it (not 1 expert out of 25 for example thought we would get Top 4, but a whopping 59% here do), unless of course the rest of the whole country knows nothing and a few Spurs supporters on a small internet forum are the font of all knowledge (and believe me, having seen comments on this forum, that is far from the case).

Expert ??

I remember reading the pundits predictions previous years and very few would tip Spurs to finish in the top 4, and yet we did how many times...that's rhetorical.

If you think Everton and Wolves are our genuine competition fair enough. I sure as hell don't and that's not Spurs blinkers. It's going off our recent success in the league and the last x amount of years.

We had a really poor first third to last season which is obviously affected people's thinking.

Prior to that we were in a CL final, as if Everton have ever got close to achieving something like that in the last decade, but they have Rodriguez and the lad from Watford now so they're on a par with us...do me a favour lol.

They also have potentially 15 games ffected people's thinking.

They also have potentially 18 European games less to play than us, as do Wolves, which will cause massive strain to our team.
