What would your 'dream' 1st 11 be which could realistically get us into the top4 and why?

Mine is:
MANAGER-MARTIN JOL ;) Ramos may be tactically better-arguably but to see Jol get us into the top4 would be more satisfying you just had to love the guy. Don't get me wrong Ramos is a better manager but in my 'Dream Team' Jol would be manager.

GK-ROBBO-Love the guy, shares a passion with the fans and so wish he could regain the form which he had when he 1st joined!

RB-ALVES-Such an exciting attacking talent, a leader and a decent defender

CB-WOODGATE-What a signing, world class CB.

CB-KING-a fully fit Leadly alongside JW would be a dream CB partnership and the king will be in our hearts forever.

LB-BALE-Again such an exciting attacking talent like Alves but can also defend decently well aswell.

RM-BENTLEY-Lovely to have an ex-gooner on board smashing us into the top4. He's a class act aswell.

CDM-GATTUSO-Would compliment Modric perfectly, is getting on a bit now, would like to experience the prem and is a real leader.

CAM-MODRIC-The little man will win spurs fans hearts with his creativity and flair.

LM-CAPEL-This guy looks like a fantastic prospect, has pace, trickery and a wonderful left foot. Would solve the LM problem once and for all.

ST-BERBATOV-If we could keep him and he could get this midfield and defence behind him we'd have some team and he'd fire us into the top4. He's a perfect Spurs player, his flair and class are why we watch football.

ST-KEANE(CAPTAIN)-He is pretty much MR Tottenham right now. So passionate, gives 110% poetic partnership with Berbatov and again with a better midfield will surely score even more.

This team may be slightly on the attacking side but hey that is the Tottenham way, the full-backs can get forward and score, the wingers are class, we have a genius in CAM and 2 strikers with a world class partnership.

So...what would your realistic 'DREAM TEAM' be which could get us into the top4 and why?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Martin Jol was sacked several months ago. I wouldn't call that realistic!

-----------Bent----Keane

Modric----Appiah----Kieta----Larsson

Bale------Woodgate--King----Hutton

-------------Enke

Think Larsson is as good as Bentley, but does get the coverage becasue he's not English. Don't know much about all these GKs we are being linked with, but Enke is reliable and wouldn't cost much. I've not been overly impressed with Amelia. i specifically watched a couple of games on FSC to see him in action. I think we'll sell Berba, but feel with the quality of Modric and Larsson, Bent would score close to 20 goals anyway. Appiah and Keita are far better than JJ and Zokora. I'd also bring in others like Makoun, Kuranyi, Miera etc depedning on their availibilty.

True.

On top of which, a 'realistic dream' is an oxymoron, isn't it? A bit like 'necessary evil' or 'Microsoft works'

Seb Larsson? I can't think of any other ones, but that's an interesting suggestion. My Brum-supporting friend thinks he's really good...

Why is he a better manager? I'm not saying he isn't, but I hate this attitutde many of our fans seem to have that because of his CV, it makes him a better manager for Spurs. It's like we've told he's a better manager so therefore he is. It might be worth pointing out that tonight Sevilla won, which means that no matter what happens in the final game of the season, since Ramos left (31 games ago) they'd have finished 3rd in La Liga. People forget the mess Seville were in when he left. Puerta had died, their Captain was out for the whole season and Alves was always in the press. The coach they apointed and never coached at first team level before, but they've still done aswell as last season. We on the other hand, would have finshed about 9th had the league started when Ramos took over. Yet with a comapritvely far weaker squad, over the same 26 games when Jokl first took over, we'd have finished 4th. The point isn't to knock Ramos, but to judge him on what he has does here and not in the past. In the right circumstances poor coach's can succeed and great one's fail. Koeman has won titles, whilst Wenger has been sacked whilst at the bottom of the league.

Yes that's him. I warned people about him before he inflicted Ramos's first defeat on us. He's top class, but doesn't get any recognition at Brum. Every time he plays he shows his quality. See the great cross he put in for an assist today. This isn't rare, he does it every week. I saw him play for Sweden against Brazil and for me he stood out against all the stars, but everyones eyes were on Pato.

Amelia/Robbo

Hutton Woodgate King Bale

Gattusso

Lennon/Jenas Lucho Modric

Berbatov Keane

Subs: Robbo/other, Dawson, Huddlestone, JJ/Lennon, Bent, Malbranque, Zokora

Extras: O'Hara, Taarabt, Gunter, Gilberto?, TT, Kaboul

(If its true theres gonna be 7 subs next year??)

Hmm seems like we're going to have to offload a few in the transfer window.

Im guessing possibly Kaboul may go after his latest outburst and regrettably TT and possibly KPB, theres simply not room to make needed additions if we're keep hold of everyone.

We're in need of experience and quality in the midfield and to prevent a complete overload something is gonna have to give.

Why stop dreaming here?

Gascoigne, Hoddle, Ginola, Klinsman, Ardiles........................... just thought that since you are visiting the past, might as well grab these too!

When Ramos builds his own team he's quite likely to go for the 4-2-3-1 system he used in Spain.

One out and out striker, supported by a trio of creative midfielders and anchored by two defensive midfielders and a flat back four.

I'd take Alonso and Thiago (both realistic targets we've shown intrest in) - they would be the defensive duo in midfield (with Hudd and Zokora as cover).

We'd need a left winger - Capel has been touted, but Arshavin would be my choice - both would be even better! Bentley would give us a class option on the right.

Keeper? Cudicini is still a class act and is out of contract this summer (I think!). Keep Robbo if he's willing to battle for a spot with Carlo.

I'd add David Luiz from Benfica to the defensive line, 21 years old, Brazil U20 regular, tall, solid central defender who can pass it and play a bit too! Perfect cover partner for Woody when King is injured!

Alonso - £14m?
Thiago - £9m
Capel - £9.5m buyout clause
Arshavin - £12m?
Bentley - £15m asking price
Cudicini -
No idea!
David Luiz
- £8m?

So you are basically looking at a summer spend of £70m+ to have a realistic tilt at the top four! (minus whatever raised from selling players considered surplus to requirements even as squad players).

Honestly can't see us bringing in more than two or three signings after Modric though - which won't bring us even close to the top four. Man City will spend that kind of money though - it will take a Chelsea esque splurge to break that clique :-(

Amelia

Hutton Woodgate King Bale

Bentley Veloso Modric Arshavin

Bent Keane

Subs:
Robinson
Dawson
Jenas
Lennon
Capel
Steed
Fabiano/Millito/Some striker

I'd bring in Amelia to compete with Robinson (if he could be willing to stay and fight for 1st choice). Then Bentley for RM, to compete with Lennon, Veloso for DMF as I do believe he'll be one of the best in the next few years! Arshavin like Toefilo suggested, plus he could cover for Modric. Capel as backup for LM. Then another striker, not sure who though, depends how Bent would get on, I realistically believe he would grab us 20-25 goals in the league if given a full season. But would be nice to have some class on the bench like Fabiano or Millito.

All realistic signings I reckon, but it would be a lot of money, so that's the type of squad that would be built over a few windows.

thats sad considering Jol almost got us 4th and came 5th with some exciting attacking football the year after with a squad close to what we have now.
