Good news for the Welsh regions.

Less good news for any Welsh players who want to earn more money. And particularly bad news for Rhys Webb.

But at least it seems to be fairly clear and doesn't have all the 'market value' nonsense loopholes from before. I just hope it leads to the regions becoming stronger rather than all the players just leaving Wales anyway and abandoning the national team.

Have to say that whilst I've never really warmed to Mr Webb, I do feel sorry for him in this situation.

He clearly must have discussed this with the WRFU before agreeing to move to France, and now it looks a bit like they've just shafted him completely.

Presumably the WRFU don't care that much as they've got Davies to replace him, but it all seems a bit odd not to have discussed it with the players before hand.

Of course they could well have done and Webb is just a Muppet...but if so he'd probably have just kept his head down.

Good match too. NZ losing their mojo at the moment and not getting away with as much from the Refs either.

Great effort from the Ospreys tonight @E17yid

Not sure why they kicked it out at the end but presumably they were just knackered.

    But great performance nonetheless.

When Lydiate and Tipuric withdrew just before the match I thought it could be 40-50 points so very pleased with the performance and 2 losing bonus points but it’s another loss at the end of the day.

Joe Marler has been cited and banned for three weeks for another piece of idiocy.

Means he misses the first two Autumn Internationals.

What a complete plum, and having seen the offence (basically throwing his elbow on to the top of someone's head) he's lucky to only have 3 weeks.

Coupled with Sinckler's 7 week ban recently, and our ability to generally commit penalties at any turn, I think there is a serious discipline issue at Quins.

Good news for Ellis Genge though who should now be close to starting, or at least being on the bench, for the AIs.

Unfortunately, Hartley got away with his citing, so Jamie George probably won't get to start.

He’s a nasty piece of work and a grade A **** so this is no surprise to me. Actually think he’s got genuine issues.

Remember when he punched Evans and @Arnoldtoo and Co were saying he slipped. Beggars belief. The guy, like Brown, is just a horrible prick.

I’m honestly not trying to get a reaction out of you, I know it might seem that way as they’re both Quins players but fuck me, I’d hate to have those 2 playing for my club. I’d find it hard to support them.

As if said to you before that’s simply not true.

I know you have your anti-England hat on but to say they are ‘nasty pieces of work’ is just ignorant to be honest.

Aggressive? Yes. Daft at times? In Marler’s case certainly. But not nasty pieces of work.

It would be like me saying that about Warburton, or Phillips (as a better example) for their various indiscretions. They aren’t nasty pieces of work though. Just aggressive and at times stupid players.

Someone who is generally a nasty piece of work is someone like Callum Clark who deliberately broke someone’s arm. Or various South Africans from previous years.

To say the same about the players above is daft.

What’s daft is comparing Warburton and Phillips to Marler. Sam’s temperament is nothing like Marler and Phillips was just a WUM.

I certainly don’t think it’s just a English thing but his track record is awful probably not quite as bad as Hartley tbf but JM can’t seem to go longer than a few months until he has to cheap shot someone.

I do think they need to be more consistent with citings/bans. The Hartley/Slimani case was ridiculous.

My point on Warburton is that you wouldn't say he's a 'nasty piece of work' because he dumped some French guy on his head in the most important game of his career. Stupid? In that situation yes. But nasty? No.

Marler is stupid but not nasty. Most of his indiscretions come as a result of retaliation. It doesn't excuse what he's doing, but it's not like he's going out there to try and cause problems. Even the most recent one, whilst dumb, was actually an effort to get a player off him who was illegally holding his leg. Not a 'cheap shot' as you put it.

Phillips was perhaps a poor example as I think he genuinely is a 'nasty piece of work' although mainly off the field rather than on it.

Completely agree. At least Hartley got off, but how one was cited and one wasn't is beyond me.

Mind you the ref in that game was hilariously inept from start to finish.

Lol at the Sam semi final comparison. The difference here is intent. Marler deliberately intended to cause harm well outside of the framework of the law. I.e by smashing someone (who was sat down) on the head with his elbow. Sam dump tackled someone and released the player at the height of the tackle so wasn’t in control but it’s hardly the same thing and you know it. Plus, you could list another 3 or 4 incidents of Marker being a **** Whereby he has cheap shotted someone coz he’s a fucking coward and a nasty piece of work. Sam is one of the nicest guys in rugby.

I love the Welsh re-writing of that 'tackle'.

But not really the point. I know Warburton's a good guy. That's the point I was making. It's possible to be a good guy and make stupid decisions on the pitch.

As I've said to you before, I've met Marler a couple of times and he's far from a nasty piece of work, and he's certainly not a coward.

However it's clear we've gone into the national bias area of the discussion now so it's probably worth moving on.

Like I said it’s got nothing to do with national bias and if you can point me to any welsh players who have done similar to Marler as frequently as Marler fair enough.

He’s a coward because he’s all about the cheap shot.

Why are the majority of his “altercations” cheap shots then? The hallmark of a coward. Especially when it can do serious damage to someone like his most recent incident when the man was sat on his arse and Marler was stood up behind him.

Which altercations are you talking about exactly?

He's been cited by the RFU once in 2011 and then not again since then.

There was the kick against Grenoble which was daft but which followed another one of their players absolutely mullering him off the ball just before that which was considered a mitigating factor when the officials looked at it (the kick was actually not as much as bad as the initial 'tackle' despite the Welsh press howling about it at the time).

I suppose there was that very vicious bit of water spraying he did to Haskell a few weeks ago.

Not talking just about his citings. He never got cited for what he did to Evans. But yeah, kicking someone in the head while they’re on the floor and elbowing someone in the head while they’re on the floor and forearming someone in the head while you’re on top of them are all pretty cowardly in my book. I see a pattern here.

When he does front up like he did with Samson Lee he has to put in some cowardly comment about his traveler heritage. Don’t reckon he’d be doing that off the pitch to his or his families face.

Can’t believe you defend this scumbag. Quite unbelievable actually.
