I agree we shouldn't be making a big deal of this and had lamela stuck it in it never would have been mentioned

I didn't want Lamela to take it beause I instantly had a vivid memory of his terrible penalty against Hull and as such had no confidence he would score

Their kepper psyched him out though, before the kick you can see the keeper standing way to his right showing lamela the other other side of the goal (which lamela opted to go for)

He then danced around and I think it would have been a difficult penalty for anyone after his antics. Son didn't help by adding unnecessary pressure

Seeing as we still won 2-0 it doesn't really matter though 3-0 would have better reflected how dominant we were

You could see straight after that Son and lamela were constantly trying to link up and I am sure there will be no hang over to their minor disagreement over the kick (aren't they good friends and son took lamela as his date to the Asian games awards?)

This is a non issue and it won't have any advise impact on squad harmony, I'm certain of that
It was Wimmer that Son took to the Asian awards not Lamela. I agree that it is a non issue though.

Apologies for not doing due diligence and starting another thread.
Is that a thousand or only 500 lines?
Interested in this because we seem to have a harmonious team spirit
which obviously benefits the team.
Discipline was everything yesterday
and this spat was totally unnecessary.
I don't believe there is not a designated penalty taker.
Eriksen was due to take one recently and let Janssen take it.
Clearly Jenas was at fault.
Needs sorting and fully expect it will be.

Let whoever take it that feels like it is a recipe for trouble
as my Sunday League team (British Rail Hull division since you ask) discovered.
Three players sent off and banned 'sine die'.
for a fracas.

Poor old JJ still getting the blame 3 years after he left.

My guess is that by next game we will have a designated penalty taker.

Either way, nothing to see here, these sort of minor disagreements and angry words happen all the time amongst teammates. No one is sulking in that dressing room after smashing City to pieces.
Didnt know you were in the dressing room with the boys

Poch explained it in his presser. Who ever feels brave enough to take it should take it. Its all about bravery. He prefers to have players arguing for the ball then no one stepping up.

So no issue. End of.

Remember the penalty shootout in Europe when we couldn't find 5 penalty kickers? This is an infinitely better problem.

Only the whiniest of the whiny would be hysterical over such a minor disagreement during such a magnificent performance.

Its all coming apart!!!! We coulda been contenders.

Have to agree. I like the fact we have two players super confident to take a pen in such an important game in the absence of our regular penalty taker. Had it of mattered more in regards the score line, then perhaps I'd feel differently. As it is I think Poch will sort it out very quickly, and we won't see anything like this again anytime soon.

There's super confident and then there's super good. I have no faith in Lamela doing any task when he has time to think about it.

Thst said good on him for having the balls to try, and given it didn't harm us ehen he missed, it's the best time of all to discover he's not our number 2 pen taker.

I hate it when managers allow players to decide between themselves. Its poor management IMO.

Son is the inform player. He's the one with goals behind him and with the confidence heading into the game. He's playing in Kane's position and should have been named as the penalty taker. If Lamela has gone against this I'd be pulling his pants down, putting him over my knee and give him a good smack if I were Poch.

But If its left to the players then this will happen. No big issue though.

Sorry for creating a new thread on this but it was kind of worrying. Hope the team spirit was not affected by this little incident and they both shook hands and made peace after the match.

Lamela didnt have his better games but he was confident enough to take the ball. I think Son, as much as he deserved to take the kick as he was on fire, should not have tried to grab the ball from Lamela and created that scene.

I'd like to see some comments from both players regarding that incident and noting that this was normal and both had kissed and made up.

Stop making Everest out of a tiny ant hill.

While it is not an issue between Lamela and Son, surely we have a designated penalty taker each game. If not, it is pretty unprofessional, and that is 1 term you couldnt use on Poch

If Poch indeed does have a "whoever feels brave can take it" policy then it is the one thing he has got badly wrong. There needs to be a named taker before every game so everyone knows who it is. There should also be a named deputy (in case the primary taker is injured or substituted, or simply does not fancy it when the time comes. I would have thought that yesterday, in Kane's absence, that Son would be the designated taker as (a) he has a track record of scoring penalties and (b) he is bang in form.

In my own opinion, I would want our penalty takers to be (in order) Kane, Eriksen, Son, Dier, Alderweireld. I don't care how confident he is I would not let Lamela near them.

We surely had a designated penalty taker, without knowing who it was its impossible to know who was in the wrong for causing a talking point. And we all know that as soon as there is a dispute over who takes a penalty, the penalty is inneveitably missed

Players can be selfish and i dont think sometimes players take penalties just because theyre confident, they take it to take the glory etc. I think Lamela is a comfidence player and feels perhaps left behind a tad based on his recent omissions from the first team.

Lamela is fucking predictable and his run up and everything screamed left side of the goal. He should never ever take a penalty again evenin a fucking shoot out.

Plus, he was our striker yesterday and generally speaking, they are the best players to take penalties. If there's someone else who is especially good at pens, then fair enough, but as Kane is the normal taker, I suspect there isn't.

I though Eriksen was going to take it before the camera panned across to Lamela with the ball...I was about as confident as Erik.

Because we won 2-0...I don't think the little spat between Son and Lamela will have any lasting problems...Its probably forgotten already (well apart from the media still going on about it). They were probably mates again in the dressing room.

If we'd drawn 2-2 or lost 2-3 then we're maybe looking at the whole incident differently but we didn't so it doesn't really matter.
