The Son-Lamela Issue

I think behind closed doors Poch will deal with the issue of designating penalty takers on the field if he hasn't done so already, selecting an order of preference depending on who is in the team.

He didn't make much of an issue about it because we claimed the 3 points, had City scored two late goals to draw the game I'm certain we would have heard a lot more about it.

The only time it will be an issue now is if by the unlikeliest sequence of bizarre events, we end up losing out the title or on finishing above Arsenal or on a Champions League spot by a goal difference of 1, which knowing us is not beyond the statistical probabilities labelled 'bizarre events', which would be cruel luck to say the least, especially when the Gooners benefited on the same day with a bizarre goal in the last second of a game away to Burnley which had a hint of offside about it and the help of a jammy Gooners elbow.

Not really because what if City had then pulled one back and put us under the cosh at 2-1?

Penalties are not to be wasted, especially against top teams like City.

Lamela made a bit of a fool of himself really as if you're gonna snatch the ball you gotta score it really and put us 3 goals clear.

Son is clearly in the better goal scoring form (and more of a goal scorer throughout his career) so Lamela should have thought of the team and let him take it.

If we'd have drawn or lost that I'd be rightly fuming with Lamela for being so wasteful of an opportunity.
I do agree that IF that happened we'd rightfully have a case, but thankfully it didnt did it? last time I checked they're all adults and they have a manager I do believe, and i'm sure it was addressed, hands were shook and we all move on. The very fact we're discussing something that proved COMPLETELY irrelevant and nothing that two grown men wont kiss and make up over is SO embarrassing to me that even in the face of a great, commanding victory we still cant just enjoy ourselves, its been less than a day!!!!!:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

one thousand stars is the least you deserve!
Genuinely worry about some fans here at SC - look back at the slating of players and management when the team list was announced. Honestly - it is as if some cannot be happy to matter what. If life gives them lemonade they will likely piss in it before drinking

Wasn't there footage of Lamela and Son having a laugh together after the game? I hardly think this is the type of thing to cause fractures in the squad.

Also, if it wasn't Lamela's to take I highly doubt Poch would have been so calm when he called him over for some words of encouragement and a slap on the back shortly after he had missed. That's the type of shit he wouldn't look upon too fondly.

In any case, I believe him when he says it's up to the player who feels confident to take the penalty and that the players have to sort it out between themselves. He's got no reason to lie about that.

It's those pesky goalkeepers - constantly attempting to prevent the ball from entering their net. Skying the ball or hitting it wide is what I would deem to be a waste. Not having your shot saved.

Son would have been far more likely to score than Lamela though as Son is much more of a goal scorer.

Ya cheeky scamp, you.

How do you come up with that conclusion? Its just a discussion. No one mentioned about it being a disaster to our season. I think its you whos trying to think that way.
I said it makes it seem that way when really it is nothing to worry about. That's how I read your post. I'm not trying to think in any way just giving my opinion of how the thread comes across. No it wasn't worrying and how on earth would team spirit be affected by it?

Sorry for creating a new thread on this but it was kind of worrying. Hope the team spirit was not affected by this little incident and they both shook hands and made peace after the match

Lamela was in the wrong. Son should of taken the kick.

To an extent and if anyone had listened to the numerous post match Manager interviews, Poch has some blame in this. He should have nominated a PK taker.

Defoe is more of a goal scorer than Son, but I wouldn't pick him to take a pen

What's their pen records like?

Similarly, most people would consider Aguero to be the best goalscorer outside of Messi, Suarez and Ronaldo, and yet he's missed many penalties. Two of which this season were in the same match (one saved / one ballooned over the bar).

Any one of us could have saved Lamelas penalty. Let's be honesy the vast majority of us knew where he was going to put the ball.

His shooting isnt the best and the way he shapes before shooting it tends to be predictable.

Lamela should never ever ever be anywhere near a penalty. I think Erikssen should have taken it.

It was either that or big boner man ladies come get some.
Wtf are you doing questioning our collective loyalties and consciences as Spurs fans? How many of us would take 10k a week to stop a Spurs player scoring a penalty in a pivotal game? Are you talking 10k a week over a whole year? Just asking, that's all.

Why do some of you find it so hard to admit when Lamela does something bad? Both in taking the penalty and it's execution, in this instance? Son's one of our main men now and he's blown Lamela out of the water with his recent performances, and I expect GKN to do the same when he's up to speed. If Lamela comes back and ups his game, I'll be the first to acknowledge it.
