Why are so many fans here hooked on Joachim Andersen? He's not even getting into the Danish national team (yet)
Should Toby leave - which is highly likely - then Sanchez would be the natural replacement and Foyth and Dier the understudies.
I'd rather go for a young left-footed CB - f.ex. Kik Pierie, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Malang Sarr or Lloyd Kelly (or someone else).

Doubt people are too hooked on him. More likely the case that he is the only centre half we've been linked with and the fee/wages/club stature seem reasonable.

I see what you're saying but just because a player doesn't play for his country doesn't mean he isn't any good. Laporte, Lenglet & Rabiot aren't fancied by Deschamps and all have the talent to play at the highest level. I know a couple of those are rumoured to be bad apples but it's sometimes an international managers preference as a person that determines why someone is chosen and not.

I think Andersen has the strength & height to compliment Sanchez & Foyth long term. I think it would be a really lovely mix of class, elegance, speed and brawn. Just my personal preference though

Saw an interesting post this morning that shows the entire Ajax starting 11 that played against Juventus last night cost a measly €55 Million.

Just goes to show you do not need to spend a fortune to compete at a top level, it can be done with good scouting and development from the academy.

I know Ajax plays in a much weaker league than us but their CL run this season has been incredible and they could go all the way to the final if they keep up their form and see off Juventus next week.

would like to hear some thoughts on how the recruitment thread has gone.

we are getting ourselves excited about some lower league players. now I know you can use our players, and players like Robertson and Gomez to justify it. at the end of the day the right player is the right player.

but given our stadium, our (cough) unused budget, are we happy with this plan given an Eriksen would want to see intent for the title (ala James Rodriquez + anyone else we would usually miss out on).

Caveat needed that I don't know the answer - the right player is the right player. But we seem to be mentioning the likes of Grealish as a nailed on top 4 player when he's not proven outside of the Championship.

I find it interesting that's all.

At the very least we should be looking in the Championship for quality HG players to fill our quota.

Also, this summer a fair bit of rebuilding of the squad is needed. Whether or not we do this, 5 or 6 players could feasibly be purchased. This is going to be expensive in the current transfer market, so one or two good, yet cheaper in cost, Championship players could help us do this.

It’s always all about the scouting. Getting that right is the very hard part.

Much better than Maddison in my opinion.
His all-round game is much better. Really believe he'll become a top player.

He's got excellent vision, brilliant spacial awareness and superb technical ability. Poch could make him a beast of a player

Difficult to judge based on his performances in the Championship. Yes he scored a very good goal last night but you need to also take into account the quality of the opposition. Rotherham are relegation cannon fodder, had an extra man and yet still couldn’t defend for toffee.

There’s a fair chunk of players in the Championship excelling this season... Gayle scoring for fun for WBA yet was way out of his depth in the EPL, Adams banging them in for Birmingham but has done next to nothing prior to this season and he’s 22... has a potential Janssen written all over him. Then you’ve got Billy Sharpe, 23 goals but he’s 33 and another that flopped in the EPL. Bowen 21 goals yet from what we’ve been told he’s not good enough for us.

I’m not saying there aren’t some impression performers in the Championship but we do need to take into account the level they’re playing at. Huddersfield, Fulham and Cardiff to a large extent were the 3 best teams in the Championship last season yet they’ve been predominantly dog shit in the EPL.

If we’re looking at the Championship then we should be targeting the ‘teens’ who are showing exceptional promise and are young enough to be moulded into better players. Eg James, Aaron’s, Clarke etc.

I wasn't sold on the idea of Grealish last summer and actually I feel like the move failing might have been the best thing for him. His response to it this season has been to mature massively into a leadership role and he has literally been the difference between winning and losing for Villa.

It may have only been Rotheram but there's no denying the quality he's shown in scoring that 2nd goal for Villa last night. He's been running the show, a cut above everyone else at Championship level, not dissimilar to how Dele looked at League 1 level.

I very much hope he's still on our wanted list for this summer.

Was just wondering this myself.

If the real C Eriksen the one we saw against Man City is willing to stay we should go all out the secure his services. It was such a kindly reminder to see Eriksen play the way he did and I just hope he signs a new contract. Alderweireld too if he puts pen to paper I'd be more than pleased.

It's looking like Villa might be back in the premiership through the play offs and that means we miss out on my number one target Grealish. The Norwich right back will be playing premiership football for Norwich next season but that might be a blessing for Walker-Peters to really come good.

I would be very happy if we get players from the list below.
Grealish Brooks Rabiot/ Ndombele Bailey Fekir, A Gomes, Houssem Aouar, Nathan Ake, Alex Telles, Memphis Depay, Max Aarons, King (Bournemouth)

Nail on head Sir..... Some of our fans really do make me wonder. Going all teeny boppers on a player "doing it" in the the Championship. His buyout clause, when he signed his new contract last Sep, is bids in excess of £45m. Let that figure sink the fuck in for a minute....

We have a limited budget, surely the money should be spent on proper quality as opposed to on a player who still has it all to prove with the "English player" tax added to his price.
