I totally agree with Walker here. It's not like he would be as far advanced if he didn't have pace - he could be that advanced because he had the recovery pace.

Personally, I think you are missing the irony of that statement Windy, and by some distance.

One of them has great football intelligence, is enormously talented, supremely technically gifted, composed and has fast feet.

And it's also part of his skill set that he's fully entitled to use.

When Bale went flying past people on the wing, no one rolled their eyes and said - he can only do that because he's got pace.

Or when Toby Aldeweireld heads a corner away, no one says - he can only do that because he isn't 5'3"

No because Bale's greatest attribute wasn't just his fast feet, it was what he did after he went past people that made him an 80m footballer.

Again, missing the irony.

It's like me saying "people say my blog is a bit shit and only there because online publishing exists, but then all the best football writers in the world use online publishing so I'm the same as them".

I would say his greed and the need to make all about him isn't displaying football intelligence

Tottenham hand trial to teenage Dutch goalkeeper Nick Weegink amid interest from several English clubs
  • Goalkeeper Nick Weegink has joined Tottenham Hotspur on trial
  • The 15-year-old will spend a week with the White Hart Lane club
  • Footage of him in action was sent to several English clubs by Romeo Zondervan

Would the regulations allow a 15yo Dutch kid to join our academy, or do we sign him and leave him where he is for 3 years ?

team vs avfc:

Freeman (c), Lyons-Foster, Lock, Bowden, Okedina, Omolabi, Clarke, Reynolds, Mukendi, P Maghoma, Patterson.

subs: Binks, A Shashoua, Madueke, Oluwayemi

basically the u16s with a couple of fringe 1st years thrown in.

How old are Madueke and Clarke?

Interesting there are 2 u15s. Particularly the inclusion of Binks. It could be simple availability, but the fact that he is on the bench ahead of Walcott and Statham must indicate that he is highly rated. If he comes on don''t know how many u15 CBs would have made appearances at u18s. FWIW I really like Binks but Statham is an u16 and Walcott is an England international, whereas Binks is a Scottish international. Either way good to have another good set of CBs.

Interesting that we have a couple of boys who go top independent schools including Shashoua (Harrow) and Markanday (Haberdashers Aske). As someone of Indian origin (via Kenya), I am hoping that Markanday can make the breakthough.

I wouldn't be surprised if Skipp also goes to a top independent school though @WindyCOYS would know more about this.

Also I have mentioned before we have another player of Indian origin in the academy who we may see soon, though I haven't heard/seen him featuring in any tournament pics recently, so there is a chance he may have been released. Dillon Desilva. Coincidentally we have a Dylan, Dilan and Dillon all Indian.

Speaking of interesting names, I think we have a Zidane, Ronaldinho and Cassanova haha. Not sure whether the first two are still in the academy though

So here is a little but about what I think will be next years intake. I am 80% confident it will be this. With the confirmation of 2 certain players I would be genuinely shocked if any of these were not included. Only 2 CBs needed as we have 4 good ones at u15s, 2 internationals, plus will still have Dinzeyi and Eyoma. Though I hope the latter will see more u23 games. Also only 1 keeper is a rarity but with Freeman hardly getting games as it is one is only needed.

1. Joshua Oluwayemi (GK) Small but good handling and very safe hands.

2. Jubril Okedina (CB) – Comfortable on the ball, and happy to bring out from the back as most are. Only seen a couple times, but I think he is highly rated. Kept around as one of 2 CBs for this age group, playing all/most games

3. Maxwell Statham (CB) – Similar to above, but was more assured with his passing. Also has a good turn of pace

4. Brooklyn Lyons-Foster (LB/RB) – Very natural on the ball. I think he is of the Ogilvie type. Can get up and down the wing and support attacks but very aware of his defensive duties. Can slot in at CB. International

5. Max Tainio (DM) – N/A

6. Oliver Skipp (DM) – Very tidy on the ball. Great spatial awareness when he is playing at DM knowing where the opposition are and often knows what he’ll do befor eh receive s the ball. Uses his body well, to protect the ball. When he plays box to box can be very progressive with his passing. England u17 regular

7. Jamie Bowden (CM) – Generally plays the deepest in CM like a regista, will pick the ball up and move it around and pick passes out from deep, Carrick like. Very calm and collected. Can fill in at RB too.

8. Paris Maghoma (CM/AM) – Composed and creative ball carrier. Not a lung buster, but can dribble past players and looks for the forward pass

9. Phoenix Patterson (CM/AM/W) – Small but powerful technical player. Can play as a box to box or more often on the wings or AM. Dynamic and influential, like what I’ve seen. Also a goal scorer

10. Armando Shashoua (AM/W) – Was out injured for a while so didn’t see a lot yesterday. But from what I remember before he was a creative AM coming in from the wings. Good workrate and good technical player. Was player of tournament in u14 PL IIRC

11. Maurizio Pochettino (W) – Right winger, more steady, who will try and get to wing and cross.

12. Rayan Clarke (AM/W) – Very tricky winger. Great balance who can shift his weight and leave a defender on the floor. Best winger I think we’ve had since Oduwa (Not incl. Azzaoui as he was here for a year)

13. Dilan Markanday (AM/W) – Intelligent attacker. Tidy dribbler who has the ability to wriggle himself out of tight situations and then pick the right pass.

14. Elliot Thorpe (AM/W/S) – Talented technical player. Used to be a striker mainly but think he’s started to drop deeper to play in the 3 behind. When I last saw him he’d certainly grown to a more normal size. Intelligent, technical good finisher, lot to like. Not seen a lot recently though

15. Jeremie Mukendi (RW/S) – Again not seen an incredible amount in last year. But remember him being a winger with a good shot on him. Used to be forward thinking trying to get around the box. Assume that’s why he was moved to striker and maybe why Thorpe moved back

16. Rodel Richards Jr. (S) – Quite a well rounded striker. Think he could potentially be good. Has a good hold up play and feet, and a good shot

Thompson-Sommers & Noni Mandeki not making the cut? Mandeki would surprise me as he looked decent, KTS was pretty average though.

IGSPUR: Thanks for the run down of the likely new scholars. You mentioned 4 CB's at U15 level (inc 2 internationals) - are these Malachai Walcott, Luis Binks, Kane Patterson and Timi Sibowale. If they are the four are not 3 of them internationals (all bar Patterson)? For SPURZINHO I think Noni Madueke is U15 (a England U15 player). Talking about the U15's they look another impressive group with also Rafferty Pedder, Troy Parrott(Eire), Dennis Cirkin looking highly promising.

Wilson-Braithwaite is also an U15 CB I believe.

Ye those are the 4 and I thought I had put 3 internationals. My mistake. Actually I know there is one more, Marcus Muir who plays a lot and has been at the club for a long time, though he could be an u14 playing up. So that's 5 and realistically they won't all be here next year,

Not seen anything of Parrott but the rest look good.

DWB is a LB I believe, could play CB for all I know but have only seen him play LB. Assume he's still around as not seen in a while. And I don't think KTS will be kept on never really impressed me in bits I've seen. He doesn't need to be and don't think we'd extend intake to 17.

Madeuke and Binks came on. Binks came on in 30th minute for Lock. Looking a the lineup and as he's a LCB I assume he came on at LB, as would be unlikely (and even more impressive if he did) for I believe a 14 year old to play at CB in the u18s league. Either way him coming on and getting a lot of minutes will be great experience for him, as it will be for Madeuke.

Hopefully they had a good game. Shashoua also came on
