Fantastic penalty and great dribble into the box. Looked like he may have dived to win it though, but hard to tell.

Love how he dropped the first man.

Went to buy tix online bit said it had sold out in all but one stand. Thought loads had turned out for last game and Ehiogu
Tribute but clearly normal attendance.

In other news England u17s looked
Quality today. Got 4 cbs playing across backline and a lot of key players missing and still totally dominated great start.

Also Madeuke has been playing for England u15s. Beat Slovenia 5-1 he scored 2, and missed a pen

i think they could do with having a proper rb and moving eyoma central. i like eyoma but don't understand why every manager seems to insist on playing him at full back, are they concerned by his [relative] lack of height or something?

Tbh I think it's just because they really like him and it allows for flexibility. As I said all 4 can play CB and all can play FB too. Guehi has played RB for England and I think Panzo or Medley LB. Think he's not playing CB as it allows a Chelsea CB partnership and they're both good CBs too. Similarly they could have taken Wilson who has had minutes for WBA and plays FB and CB.

I think what it comes down to is that we have so much strength and ability in attack that we're not reliant on our FBs being a creative outlet and they're more defenders who support the attack or provide an option.

Thought Hinds and Sessegnon would have worked well. Still a quality squad despite injuries, unavailability and plenty left home that could slot seamless in

We clearly have a different raison d'être to many of the 'elite' teams at the moment.

We're constantly putting people in unusual positions, testing their flexibility etc. All about all round development. Dutch system, right?

The more I've read about Ugo since he passed, the more I've realised that's what we are doing.

He really knew his shit and everyone who's everyone said he was hungry to learn more. Him + Poch and I really doubt some of the stranger decisions weren't planned.

Maybe not as much fun for youth watchers because results suffer but I'm really intrigued by some of the players that are going to come through.

Who's taking charge of the u23s now? Was that their last game of the season yesterday? Wonder if Edwards is getting a bit demotivated playing for the youth teams whose results seem to be struggling this season.

Matt Wells, Ugo's assistant was on the side line with John McDermott 'acting manager'.

Wells is Cliff Jones' Grandson (top knowledge).

The contrast between the two sets of staff couldn't have been more different.

The two Mitchell brothers on the Leicester bench took me back to my playing days just below the Ryman League about 10 years ago. They were literally barking every single order to the players, mostly from the smaller older one.

Wait, pass it now, cross it low, stop, run...now, jog, stand still.Sounds silly to say but it was like the players were just robots, particularly those down the flank of the bench, they were following out orders to the word then occasionally the right back wouldn't sit half and half between position and opponent and the guy would lose his sh*t! What the f* are you f* doing! F*ing listen!

Then Matt Wells, like a young Poch lookalike just let them play their game, no restrictions, just encouragement and praise. The odd push up or re-organisation on a corner but that was it. Only time he looked frustrated was when Glover got sent off for hand ball (where Lloris came out to head on Sunday, Glover got his bearings wrong, out his hands up and was walking before the ref blew the whistle).

The two photos below sum it up pretty well!

Never had the pleasure of seeing Ugo but have seen a few U18's including both legs of the youth semi and John McDermott was very much the same on the side, certainly goes along with what @Cornpattbuck says above.

From interviews with McDermott and Alex Inglethorpe before him they've always said they look for skill and talent first.
Obvious from watching the U18's and U23's, both the Chelsea and Leicester sides looked far bigger and more physical on the pitch.

The guy behind me last night kept going on about all the midgets Spurs have in the team, although Edwards was one of the stand out players and Sam Shashoua made and impact when he came on.

I notice Eurosport are showing the UEFA U17 games. Are England in it and if so, do we have any players in the squad?

Can anyone tell me how our u18's are lining up right now - i.e. The best 11 and formation - I've seen much of them at all this year. Cheers.

hard to say as it changes a lot and some of the choices aren't necessarily what i'd pick.

if we could redo the chelsea youth cup games and with everyone made available i would go for

whiteman
eyoma tanganga brown
hinds skipp tob tsaroulla
edwards shashoua
sterling
typically though, over the season we've gone for the following in a 4231 -

austin; eyoma, dinzeyi, tanganga, tsaroulla; marsh/skipp, tob/duncan; shashoua, roles, bennetts; sterling/griffiths.

It's incredible how well that formation would suit our defence. Think Bennetts and Roles would feel hard done by getting left out. Though if you go with the fact that they didn't want to play Edwards for whatever reason I'd stick Roles in and arguably stick Bennetts at WB. He's played LB before and he is better attacking (obviously) than Tsaroulla

Make sure you watch. I think their next televised game is against Netherlands on 10th. Great age group, with plenty of talent still missing

Thanks BG. Not seen Hinds, what's he like?

I like Marsh, you not so keen?

hinds is like kwp - small, agile, good acceleration and more than comfortable with the ball at his feet.

marsh i did like 12-18 months ago but since then he's basically just become someone that goes around clattering into players, a lot of the time though he struggles to get near them as he doesn't have the pace or power to keep up. he does better at cb but hard to see him having a career there given he's only around 5'7" or so.

I've not seen enough of him. Before the Chelsea games the only extended look at Marsh was some England youth game footage that @IGSpur posted, but he was looking like a very footballing busy ****. And I thought he was one of the few to come out of the Chelsea game (first leg) with much credit, although it was mostly his tenacity and work rate that night that impressed. Still thought he had a bit of football in him though..

i don't think marsh has played for england, unless it was at a really young age group. he'll always be tenacious and work hard but i don't think he offers anything particularly outstanding on the ball, he also often gets overrun in midfield which causes us problems. oliver skipp is two years younger and pretty much better in every department, although he's a calmer/more considered type whereas marsh is full throttle.
