Of course Windy, and I have said before I can understand those of you avid youth watchers having more desire than others to get these kids promoted to the first team quicker.

Let's just take Edwards as an example though. Clearly a talent at the level he is playing but if in first team training he is being easily and repeatedly pushed off the ball by the senior players, then is it not understandable that the coaching team think he is not physically ready for first team action?

As I say unless you see the whole picture it's all to easy to declare players ready, when in fact they very well might not be
Yeah that would be fair. But I think that's highly unlikely as he's a strong kid.

veljkovic was 20 and had already been here five years, he could see that he wasn't going to get a chance(or that it would be very difficult to come by) so he looked for a way out, people forget that he actually made two appearances under sherwood so to have had that taste followed by nothing for the next 18 months would have been frustrating for him. people can say that he should've been more patient and believed in poch but it's a lot to ask a player to effectively put their career on hold with no guarantee that they're going to be given the chance to make that final step at the end of it. azzaoui is different, he was 17 and had only been here for a year so i don't blame anyone for what happened there.

Where is that world beater veljkovic these days - not exactly setting the world on fire

I was just using that as an example. I don't watch these players like you so I can only go on what I'm told. It has always been explained to me the same whenever Edwards is brought up. "Concerns regarding his physicality". Now I haven't heard anything recently so perhaps that is now not so much of an issue. I do know however Poch loves his players to be seriously fit, and players (walker for example) have been left out of squads for failing to be at the required standard fitness wise. We have to also remember everything is monitored now, and failing on a bleep test for example has been in the past a reason for not getting playing time.

Now I'm not suggesting general fitness is an issue for Edwards, just pointing out there are plenty of factors that could have Poch deciding he is not yet ready. The way he talks about him it's clear that he rates him highly, but there is clearly a reason other than talent that is giving reason for holding him back.

It’s also what his response is when he’s pushed off the ball. Is he fighting to get it back, or does his head go down? These are all things we can never really be aware of.

Absolutely. I think we also have to take into account just how physically imposing his team mates are. Windy says he is quite a strong kid, and that may be so, but when you think about the physicality/tenacity of some our other midfielders, Dembele, Sissokko, Wanyama, Lamela Dele and Dier perhaps it is a case of how he reacts. I mean that is a fairly big and strong bunch of lads he is up against.

Plays for Werder Bremen. In the relegation zone.

.................................

when talking about players who didn't make it, people only tend to want to hear about them again if they became megastars like say pogba when he left utd but whilst we may not be losing world-beaters, they could have at least been players who'd have contributed to the squad and you'll often find that players who come through at a particular side will perform to a higher level there than they would elsewhere - like the numerous examples under alex ferguson's reign at utd.

veljkovic - I think it's a little disingenuous and also unfair to use the position of bremen against him. they finished 8th last season for a start but even if they are struggling it's not necessarily a reflection of him as a player. the likes of zaha, barkley, lanzini etc also play for sides near the bottom of the league but a lot of fans want us to sign them. if we're talking about defenders only then last summer players like keane, maguire, mawson and gibson were suggested a lot and they'd have all cost 20m+, I think veljkovic is or could have proven to be as good as any of them and we let him go for what, £500k? i'm not saying he's a player we're going to massively regret letting go but again, he could've been a good, solid option for us.

We are aware of a player who gets constantly pushed off the ball but instead of fighting to get it back immediately, lies there with his arms in the air pleading with the ref. He's quite a big lad too. And he can't seem to get himself dropped or rested.

Ha, no surprise you’ll find a way to crowbar Alli in to the conversation.

When you Kevin Nkoudou's and Moussa Sissoko's have finished wetting the bed, the point I was making was that there is this continual standard to which academy players seem to have the be held to, that is even more stringent than regular players are held to. There is a never ending stream of excuses made for why a development player must be ruled out of contention. His mentality, his physicality, his attitude, how he says hello in the fucking morning....But we see senior players continually signed, forgiven and even rewarded in spite of some of these failings.

I used Alli as an example because it directly related to what was said about how players reacted to getting shoved off the ball. Alli just happens to be the most shoved off the ball player in this league, bar one, I believe. If he'd said about how players are rash, I would have used Aurier, how players have bad attitudes's off the pitch and disrespect their team mates, Rose etc etc.

Both Sissoko and GK were publicly called out by Poch and left out of numerous match squads, before we've been told that they now understand what's expected. There might be a different or more stringent expectation for the kids as part of their development, but you're acting as if the first team get a free pass which I'm not sure is either true or fair.

I wasn’t using Nkoudou and Sissoko as examples of double standards. I was using them as a joke in response to people calling me “Alli”. I used Aurier and Rose as examples of double standards.

It might help if you read my posts before dron.....
