Livermore and McClean are 8 years older than Walkes who is 20.

I am not convinced that they were better than him at the age of 20.

It’s the same argument I made in 2014 on another forum when comparing Harry Kane to Teddy Sheringham after Kane.

Some ridiculed my suggestion that Kane reminded me of Teddy. They said he will never be as good as they were comparing a 21 year old Kane to Teddy in his prime and not the Teddy who was playing for Aldershot and a Swedish team as a youngster (on loan from Millwall).

I was replying to a post which compared Anton with those two. Im o not a good comparison, nevertheless I fell Livermore as a youngster was a better footballer than Walkes but as I say Anton has continued to surprise so he has something about him but I don't see him at the top level

It's not as odd as it sounds...compare the time spent training to the time playing matches and it's obvious that most of the improvement takes place on the training grounds.

That is not to say that matches have no benefit - but the real benefit comes from fighting for a chance to be in the starting XI.

I also believe Poch when he says you have to show your qualities on the training ground before the manager will select you for a match.

That's the way I see it.

I think it's an effort to build character. As in, apply yourself to the boring bits now away from the bright lights and the rewards and exciting parts will come later...

Dedicated fans can't appreciate it because we have no evidence in front of us that the players' aren't stagnating.

Yet Winks came through the 'system' and came out the otherside looking like he'd been playing Premier League and Champions League football for years. But then he was already ferociously competitive and switched on.

I think Poch recently realised (or was told) he'd become a bit like an over protective parent and now it's time to see how the lads cope outside of the bubble. Hence the loans.

We'll see. It's different but fingers crossed.

Brooklyn Lyons-Foster. I would like to know why he is astonishing as I have never seen him play.

Never seen a defender as technically proficient as him. His clearances are passes, his headers are deft touches to a midfielder ,he dribbles it out and drops his shoulder, etc, etc.

Adam Lallana, Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke and Ben Woodburn have been included in Liverpool U23s’ squad for Monday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.

The first-team quartet have been made available to Neil Critchley for the Premier League 2 fixture at Stevenage FC’s Lamex Stadium, which you can watch live on LFCTV and LFCTV GO (7pm GMT kick-off).

Lallana was back in full training at Melwood on Friday after a suffering a minor setback upon returning from a long-term thigh injury, but was left out of Liverpool’s squad for Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Spurs at senior level.

Ings and Solanke were unused substitutes during that match, while Woodburn is in line to make his seventh PL2 appearance of the season this evening.

Too bad van Dijk isn't eligible to play as well. :)

Bizarre that TOB is training with 1st xi but can’t get in U23. Unless being saved for Newport.

I don't want to be cruel, but this team is really uninspiring:

https://twitter.com/SpursOfficial/status/960579431252275200

Skipp, Shashoua and Oakley-Boothe on the bench...

Meanwhile, Liverpool have gone strong:

yeah i just don't really get what we're doing with the u23s. ideally we should be playing something along the lines of this most games:

whiteman

eyoma
tanganga
lyons-foster

hinds
skipp
tob
brown/bennetts

shashoua
roles

sterling
