I'm not the most tactically aware so didn't think about the fullback thing. I had noticed it, but I assumed it was Reynolds being drawn into him more natural central role. Though as you say Hinds comes central too but again I thought it was due to his calmness and ease on the ball leading to him picking it up centrally. Plus we also know he has the ability to play CM. However, I guess if they were doing it against instruction they wouldn't be playing much, so must be under instructions.

If so it is good to see Parker trying something out himself

definitely intentional, the movements are too deliberate and consistent for it to just be a case of them finding themselves in those positions. to be fair i don't think it's every game, maybe just when it's hinds and reynolds playing but you can see that whenever we have the ball they go 15 yards infield alongside whoever the deepest cm is. against chelsea i could probably find some clips where reynolds is so far over that he's in hinds' half of the field and vice versa. the shape that day was pretty much this:

de bie
eyoma l-foster
hinds bowden reynolds
markanday skipp patterson bennett
parrott
when we lose the ball we fall back into a standard 4231. it's interesting to watch and to try and work out what's going on, i'm not sure it even benefits us to play that way but like you say it's good to see parker trying something different with them.

So from what all of you have said, we need to get tanganga a loan or push him into the first team. Onomah is still good at CM and we should try him out there in pre-season and KWP is still a dope fullback.

don't think tanganga should be with the first team yet, though going on the pre-season tour with them wouldn't hurt but he(and a few others) could definitely do with a loan next year.

With the World Cup happening we should see a fair few going on preseason tour this summer.

A huge opportunity for like off Onomah to impress

Just finished watching the England U21 game. It never ceases to amaze me that Boothroyd is trusted with this stage of development by the FA. This is an incredibly talented group - largely the U20 group - but already their play is looking less structurally cohesive under hime, and despite dominating large chunks, the game was very messy and incoherent, and for all their good individuals, they didn't create enough quality.

That said, this really is a very talented group. From back to front, some really technically proficient players. Like the two CB's. Really like Ejaria (think I mentioned him at the WC - I thought him and Onomah were the best combo in CM), that was a lovely through ball he played to Lookman towards the end with the outside of his boot. Thought Maitland-Niles looked good in patches. Really like Lookman.

KWP was decent, but feels like we only see three quarters of his game at LB. Onomah put in a very nice cameo, some nice touches and played one of only a couple of through balls that were played. Also liked Madison when he came on. Sess/Madison/Lookman as the 3 AM's for the Ukraine game for me please.

The great thing about this u21 age group it is the strongest u21 group so far supported by a very strong 96 group.

A lot have stagnated but if more is done to help their development this group should win the u21 Euros even taking I to account the best play for the seniors. Load of depth and ability in there. Sadly I'm not hopeful things will change but that's what they should/could be doing

here's a typical clip of what i was talking about, note the positions of hinds(#2) and reynolds(#3) who are supposed to be the full backs in the side.

probably not that interesting to most tbh :D

Wow very very noticeable. Is this the recent game.

I'm starting to wonder if it has always been this pronounced, looking back. It's harder to noticd from the side live and helps with the cameras. As above we've definitely got the players to do it.

yeah, the pl cup final from last week.

i think this full back thing has only started fairly recently so it would've been easy to miss as it's only been 3-4 games. will be interesting to see if it's something we carry on with once hinds and reynolds move up or whether it's just making use of those two given they've played multiple positions before. either way it's good to see that parker's tactically flexible enough to try these things.

Just spotted that Ejaria is yet another Londoner who's found his way up to Merseyside.

Never ceases to amaze me how stacked Liverpool and Everton's youth systems are with talented lads from down south at the mo. Strange one.

Kids who need to escape childhood cliques to realise their talents, as per Sterling, or just coincidence?

Apologies for the tangent...

Do you think Troy parrott could be a replacement for Reo Griffith’s and that is why spurs are not too bothered if Griffiths moves on ?

They are different types of forwards aren’t they? Mate of mine who watches a fair few youth games thinks Parrott has more skills and his positioning is better off the ball.

Griffiths is less technical and more about hustle and bustle. From what little I've seen of Parrott he looks far better on the ball, more coordinated, a miles better finisher and a more natural forward (given that he's played in that role for longer than Griffiths).

I'm a fan of Griffiths but he's very raw and rough around the edges.

There’s definitely a vibe of next kane with parrot he seems to have the size strength and the technical ability. I have a feeling Griffiths physicality maybe giving him an edge right now, but when that evens out in mens football he may not be so effective. But you can’t argue with Griffiths numbers and essentially that’s what he is in team for.

I don't think I've ever seen him do anything like that for Spurs.

I have always found him a good player but never an outstanding one. The ability has been there but not the confidence then of course the injuries came in. I wonder if him playing international football will help boost his confidence. Like most of our academy players he would be able to at least hold is own in the PL, just doesn't show it that much at u23s.

For those who are bored here is the England u19 match that wasn't televised in the end. Lovely assist from Tanganga at 26:40
