Arsenal have 8 academy players,4 starts (Iwobi, Maitland-Niles, Willock, Nelson) and 4 on the bench (Akpom, Da Silva, Osei-Tutu, Nketiah) while we are drawing 0-0 to Wimbledon at half time with KWP as our only academy players (it you don’t count Kane)

mate --- two points: why wouldn't you count Kane?
Arsenal were terrible first half....Forest should be 4-1 up at the break

1) Because he’s a starter for us, meant players that just came through the academy
2) I wrote this before the Arsenal game. And I agree they have been awful

The more I watch KWP play the more confused I get to why Poch isn’t playing him. He was brilliant once again today from what I saw and heard

Because that would require Poch to push out one of his own players. By that I mean that apart from Rose the other three full backs are his signings.

It was easier in his first season to play youth because he inherited a squad and certain senior players he didn't rate/and or didn't want. He could wash his hands of them from day one.

As time as gone on he has brought his own players in and shaped the squad to his fit. Whether you rate Sissoko or Trippier or rated Wimmer and Janssen, they were bought by Poch and he has to own that.

Poch could isolate AvB and Redknapp signings but unless he is ruthless with his own then youth integration will be very slow.

One might say he has been ruthless and cite Janssen, N'Jie and Walker but rather than turn to our academy we brought in Llorente, N'Koudou and Aurier. Are we better off with that?

No one is saying that we need 8 academy players in the squad. Just a couple (alongside kwp) on the bench would have been fine. Sterling and bennetts, shashoua or skipp woukd have worked out okay

understood mate.....it is an odd thing, I think Poch, for the first time, may be slightly influenced by the media. He has got so much grief for not taking the Cups seriously, he stacked the team and bench.

Think that GKN is just about giving him minutes so he can be sold (think that is a business decision not a football one).

Iwobi has been in he Arsenal first team for ages and you counted him? I'd guess it was more to help the stats fit your agenda?

Also look how it's turned out, they're losing to a championship side with no one to come on and change it and now look likely to lose their only chance of a major trophy

I'm not saying poch shouldn't have put more on the bench but it's so easy to say that when it's not your job on the line. I think the balance should be in the middle of what they both did, with one or two on the bench, wenger has just been irrepsonsible

I see what you’re saying but I don’t completely agree. Players like Capoue, Stambouli, N’Jie and Nkoudou has been isolated. And if one player from the academy plays better than one senior play whether he’s been bought by the manager or not he should play over him, it’s not fair on KWP that he’s performing well on training, performs on the pitch but he still doesn’t get the game time he deserves and when he does play it’s on the wrong position

I did mention Kane it wasn’t like I didn’t write his name. And it’s true I shouldn’t have named Iwobi. And I wrote this before the Arsenal game started. I agree, Arsenal has been poor and Wenger shouldn’t have started so many academy/fringe. But Poch didn’t have one player one the bench, when is he going to give them the chance then?

wenger did it wrong, starting kids alongside a random assortment of fringe players doesn't really benefit anyone so it's not much of a surprise they lost.

What I thought he did completely wrong was that he had no senior player on the bench.

Hmmm. Maybe they went too far!

Watching the highlights, theres is nothing sissoko offers that an acadamy player couldnt. He is a fucking abomination of a player and we are worse off with him.

Has he got pics of poch hanging out the back of a ladyboy or something?

Literally no one has ever suggested that, in fact people don't want 4 players all thrown in together. One or two with the first team max. Something like this happens and then people find an excuse not give young players a chance also forgetting a) there were loads of signings involved for Arsenal, and b) Forest had 5 of their own academy players involved too. So conversely it worked really well for Forest and their academy boys beat a Prem team

The Europa League is the competition which gives academy players the best chance of being integrated into the first team. It seems to be the only competition we can still progress in whilst involving youngsters. Poch would get slammed if he did it in the league or fa cup and failed- just look at the stick wenger is getting.
As we aren’t in it, we’re not seeing so many opportunities for them.

I'm not one to lament Poch in general, but the selection yesterday was pathetic, imo. I'm not an avid proponent of launching youngsters in, but ffs - it was AFC Wimbledon. I can see why Wanyama and Lamela got 90 mins, but the rest I felt weren't really necessary, especially during such a congested fixture period.

While I kinda agree it was only Verts that played every minute of those 3 close games.

Everyone else had at minimum half a game worth off so I doubt any was tired.

My problem is why have Nkoudou on bench if he’s going in the summer and why have dele/Son/Eriksen just put two on bench and a youngster.

Although i don’t like Llorente one bit and would rather give sterling his place in our squad. At least he’ll put in the effort that Llorente lacks.
