KWP does not have a squad place. He is a free pick anyone under 21 at start of jan 2018 can play for us this season without affecting the squad numbers.
I've been an Amos doubter since he joined the club fulltime but I'll admit that he is finally starting to look like the player he was as a schoolboy when he was so impressive. Strong, confident at taking the ball in tight spaces, sharp feet, good burst of pace over short distances, carries the ball confidently, good awareness of whats around him and brave in the tackle. He still lacks a little composure around the opposition box but that can be worked on.
As you know his strength was his attacking play when he joined and a talented one, but then found himself playing 2nd fiddle to the better midfielders and attackers and could only play at LB, which obviously stifled him. He had a really good 2nd year in DM, but was never really let off the shackles as there were just better players than him, and strangely we actually started to prioritise the less talented Walkes ahead of him. Playing Walkes at 10. which Amos would be a lot more suited too or even in CM, yet Amos still found himself out of the way. Like with most players he's always had the ability, and was always the 2nd/3rd tier of talented depending on how you separate them out. But the fact he looks more than comfortable in the 1st team isn't a surprise to me. I think the loan done him well though as it gave him his confidence back, and released the shackles.
It'd be like asking if Roles is good enough to play first team football in a few years time when he first joined. You wouldn't be surprised because he has talent, but then his development stalled and other more talented players got games ahead of him, combined with his fragile frame, now you wouldn't think he was anywhere near the first team. However it would not surprise me whatsoever to see him fill out a bit, maybe get a loan and be on a preseason in a couple of years time, looking good.
Good thing about Amos, though, like Skipp is he can revert to a DM type and has played in defence and play safety first football, and move the ball around. This may give him a faint hope of getting a chance in the first team. The only downside is again we're just bringing through the safe good guys, who will do a job but still struggling to find a way to bring through the real talents. Still Amos coming through would be brilliant and save us having to spend money on that type elsewhere, meaning we have more money to go on improving areas we need it.
If you’re talking about safe good guys. Look At Livermore must have a fair few England caps now. If we hadn’t sold him could he have done a job as an adequate back up DM probably. Not wanyama but not a million miles worse.
My man of the match: Marcus Edwards. If only Pochettino was watching young Marcus take on PSG today. The wizardry winger tore PSG to shreds he was electric, at times mesmeric and quite frankly unstoppable going forward. Hardworking and good at tracking back Edwards was the beating heart of Burnett’s side and he was pivotal to us taking PSG all the way to penalties. The 19 year olds days at Spurs may be numbered but he had such a positive impression on the game and created a plethora of chances and initiated a whole host of attacking moves. The way he danced past players and twisted and turned his way out of tight spaces can only be likened to that of the great Lionel Messi !
Surprised ogilvie is still with usline-up vs rennes:
freeman; hinds, dinzeyi, statham, ogilvie; duncan, a.shashoua, maghoma; edwards, tracey, parrott
4' 1-0 ogilvie
27' 1-1 dinzeyi gives away a pen and gets sent off ...
38' 2-1 rennes
ft 2-1
Does anyone know how our U16's got on against Bury Town U18?
lost 2-1
suspect that's our u16 squad list rather than a team-sheet though as i think a few of those were missing after england duty. apparently eddie carrington was the standout, with aird-munn, siziba and gibson-hammond impressing too.
Many thanks. Just a note of interest I am not really clear about Eddie Carrington's proper (or full) name. He has been referred to as Eddie Carrington- Alberdi or even Eddie Alberdi or as the programme says Eddie Carrington. Just confusing really. I have not heard of Alexander Laing or Alex Gibson-Hammond before.lost 2-1
