Those Murrayanettes watching the Davis Cup are very cute.

I'd like to bath each and every one of them.

Aussie Open kicked off last night with a couple of tight defeats for the brits (as always).

It's great to see Kyle Edmund made it into the main draw on his seeding rather than have to struggle through qualis but he lost a tough five-setter against a guy also ranked in the mid-80's. Not seen the highlights yet but sounds like it was fitness levels that done him in the end.

Watson also lost out in a last set decider but from the sounds of it she could and probably should have done better (but she's never done well in the heat of Melbourne).

Looking forward to seeing how Dan Evans gets on against 18th seed Feliciano Lopez. He's already done well to make it through the qualifiers but he's got a tough start against Lopez

I think Lopez will have too much for Dan. I'll be surprised if he got a set. Hope I'm wrong though.

Agree, I'm hoping the quails have set him in good stead and he can catch him cold (but expecting a 2-6, 3-6, 1-6 defeat)

Shame they're both on @ around 2am :banghead:

Hmm. Pretty much as we expected.

Such a shame, he's lifted his game a few times at Wimbledon but reading the reports it sounds like the 6-4 in the final set was mainly Lopez on wind down and only breaking when he needed to @ 4-4

It is a shame, cos he's a nice player. First saw him as a 15 year old beating Daniel Cox in a junior final and he was great to watch; just went for everything and enjoyed himself. It seems, though, that he's just never had the dedication to match his talent. He should never have fallen into the 700s as he did last year. Of course I don't know the whole story but I can't see any way he's going to make it into the top 100 now.

Yeah saw him on court one @ Wimbledon many years ago and he put up a really good fight (can't remember who he was playing) but he's never quite made that step up.

Personally I think it's the typical thing with the young brit players that they seem to struggle with being away from home comforts and travelling around playing two-bit tournaments and living out of hotels. Could it be linked to the LTA giving them too much financial support (if there is such a thing) and them knowing they don't have to win as they'll still get funding... (who knows).

Here in the UK, tennis is quite an elite sport (I played to a half decent level as a junior but couldn't afford the £80/month that the local tennis club wanted for membership so had to give up and just play against friends now). It just feels like there isn't the fight and desire in the young brit players that there is in players from some of the other nations.

Says a lot that our only decent player from this generation leant most of his game in Spain

Great win for Konta today, really nice to see a british lady into the QF's! COuld she go all the way?
Well done Murray too, but given Tomic has never even previously won a set against Murray it was less of a surprise.

And now both are into the SF!
Could we conceivably have a Grand Slam where there is British representation in both finals?!

Could be more than just the two finals. Jamie Murray is in the doubles semi-finals and Gordon Reid is in the semi-finals of the wheelchair singles.

Indeed! Fingers crossed...

I think Kerber will have too much for Konta, at least in terms of experience and consistency.
Murray vs Raonic should be a good match and if Murray makes it, I hope to the gods of Tennis that he can finally win an Australian Open final!!!

The other two are looking equally classy, but I don't know their opponents well enough to comment.

Most of Dan Evans' problems stem from the fact that he is a crazy chav with not much between the ears. Gets into quite a bit of trouble off the court, has gone through spells of not being very committed etc.

Brilliant from Konta. Does anyone find her quite hot? There's something about a lot of tennis players in general, I just think they have a great physique.

What I liked was even when she won, she was so grounded. No over excited celebrations, just a walk to the net and a friendly embrace with the opponent. She seems to have a really great attitude.

Anyone else sick of Djokovic winning everything? Ruining the sport for me.
Feb wins 3rd set and roof on, maybe just maybe this game could swing

agree he is an annoyingly good robot though, Fed and Murray look great in the slams until they play him
