We've actually got a brilliant squad of players right now. If we can somehow keep the best of them at the club next summer, and bring in a decent manager, there's no reason we shouldn't be right back in the mix.

Imagine this team playing for a manager that gets the best out of them:

Lloris
Walker__Chiriches__Verts__Rose/Benny
Sandro/Capoue
Dembele___Paulinho/Holtby
Lamela_______Eriksen
Ade/Soldado

Numerous other variations could do very well too. If we can keep this team, or build on it next summer, we'll be a force to be reckoned with.

On the other hand, if Levy ends up allowing key players to go off the back of one poor season (which I'm expecting this to be), he'll probably put the club back several years. Then it really will be time for a 'we almost did it' thread.

All Defoe's fault- if he was taller, he would have scored against City to make it 2-3 and we would have won the match and probably come very close to winning the title.

I look at our current team, and all I can think is wow.. What a starting 11. The only three places which we need some class players is CM as the tick over player (assisting the assister). Left Wing a genuine left footed player who can cross, dribble, pass etc. and a left back who can both support the attackers and defend well.

All three position we have potentially players who can be those class players, Dembele before his injuries was looking an absolute steal at 15M, Townsend we know can be a superb left winger and Rose was probably our best player pre-season and I feel can step up to the mark and claim that left back position, without the need to purchase an experienced left back.

The places I think we need to strengthen getting young fresh hungry forwards who are willing to be fight and challenge for the starting 11.

In my eyes the ideal january window would be to sell Defoe and acquire two hot prospects up top. One who is already at the level of slotting in as a sub/ possible starting 11 and the other who needs development. And then reassess the situation in the summer.
