I totally disagree with this. He was at least as good if not probably better than Vertonghen at the end of last season.

Of course he was, I think it was widely accepted. Vertonghen and Dembele appeared beyond criticism even though they were both gash towards the end of the season.

Anyway, lets just get Micah Richards.

Micah Richards.

Utter, utter rubish. They both made mistakes, the difference was Vertonghen also contributed much more to our play. Dawson finished the season awfully. Our high line got deeper and deeper, he was getting done in the air frequently and was just as bad at set pieces as Vertonghen (and always has been).

Micah Richards, as I said is flawed, but to be honest, I don't know too many CB's that aren't, but at least he's strong, quick, technically decent with the ball at his feet and wouldn't have the turning circle of of the QE2 like Dawson.

Been using this site for the latest info for years but only just joined as I've come across some relatively low key ITK. Comes from the top at Swindon, apparently we're planning on selling a significant amount of young players to Swindon and implementing a 1p buy-back option on each. This is to get round the loan rules, where currently we'd only be able to loan one player a season to Swindon I believe. Very sneaky and clever, just thought I'd share.

For Sunderland! A team who was nearly relegated! What's the point in signing paulinho, villa etc etc and playing Danny rose left back! Come on seriously.... We might as well keep BAE at left back because he's 100 times better than rose. Would Danny Rose play left back for the other top 4 teams? Liverpool? Everton? NO!

I don't say Rose should be a starter. Only a good alternative who should be given a fair chance to be a first team regular. I say we definatley need another LB, but with the amount of games it is good to have Rose around.

I like Micah Richards too mate .. I wonder if there's a reason he's had more than triple the amount of International caps as Dawson, despite being almost 5 years younger? And I also wonder why he's had almost triple the amount of International caps as Kyle walker, despite only being 2 years older?

Not looking for a fight with anyone, but I think there must be an obvious reason why, despite all of the riches that have walked into Man Citeh, Micah Richards, when fit, is pretty much always a starter? They could have easily replaced him many times over, yet he still remains, even despite his injury record. Surely that must say something about the lads ability?

Big Dawson fan, but agree with BC. When he first came back into the team he was very good and pretty much error free, however, towards the end of the season his form went from him. Can't remember which game it was but he came off the bench in one game and was absolutely all over the place - mishit clearances, poorly timed tackles and caught out of position - from that point on he didn't play as well as he had been.

I do love him though and am very happy to keep him as a rotation option.

EdIT - the game where he came off of the bench was at home to Basel

EDIT 2 - interestingly just found a quote from Tevez saying that ' Dawson is the best English defender I've ever played against'. Hadn't heard that one before.

Bloody Levy...he could at least make it a tenner to help Swindon out a bit.

I bet Levy will still try to haggle that down when buying back

This is a massive exaggeration. If we were this harsh on all of our young prospects none of them would ever break into the first team.

Yes, Sunderland were shit last season, but that doesn't make all of their players shit. Newcastle were equally dire, and they've got some brilliant players on their books. Rose was one of the few shining lights in an otherwise terrible team, and your reaction to that is essentially "it doesn't matter cos the rest of the team are shit"?. What does the lad need to do in your eyes? Drag the team to the top half with his barnstorming runs from LB? Maybe you didn't see him play, but on the few occasions I did he looked miles better than he did when he was last in a Spurs shirt: he's quick, tenacious, and, while far from great, showed he's got the qualities to make it at the top level. Based on BAE's form last season, to say that he's 100 times better is pure, unadulterated horse shit.

Now don't get be wrong, we'd be stupid to promote Rose to the first team straight away, but I think rotating him with BAE/another experienced LB makes perfect sense. We need to nurture the few prospects we have rather than writing them off based upon a couple of poor performances from a couple of years ago.

Oh, and it's worth noting that several journos have reported Liverpool have shown an interest in him.

The idea that Levy has installed '1p' buy back options...

Where joking and reality collides.

Have no idea where this Richards stuff came from. When fit he is a monster though.

The Swindon bit seems like it should not be allowed surely? Why wouldn't people be doing that already?

As a Crawley fan, I'd hate for them to be the team getting the loans! Would love some Spurs youngsters playing down here. Nathan Byrne was on loan here last season and was fairly popular.

Should we get Crouchy back then because his International goal ratio is pretty good...?

Do you know how many of his caps were playing right back for England? If you do then we could do more of a fair comparison to Walker.

The funniest thing about Richards was when he played for England at 18. His main selling point according to the commentator was that he was 'fast enough to recover from his mistakes.' He is an athlete, but his all round footballing brain is non-existant, he's everything that BC says about Kyle Walker, only with Richards it's actually true.

Nice post and, if you don't mind? I'll just say, for the 198576374887435th time, look how awful Ekotto was when he was the same age as Danny Rose (and he was bloody awful). The guy couldn't get into a team that chose from defensive choices of Chibomba (sorry, couldn't resist :)) , Pyo, Stalteri, Ziegler, Dawson, King, Ifil, Gardner & Rocha.. Yet look how he improved, look how he pretty much won everyone over. Writing off Rose would be a really silly decision, in my opinion.
