Suarez and Alderweireld.

Note how the cryptic says 'smaller than the other' and not necessarily 'big'.

Smaller cabbage than the other -Brussels sprout- Belgium, Alderweireld

Other cabbage is therefore Suarez, not Brussels sprout so is larger than the other.

Same grocer is Atletico.

Pretty sure it's that.

Would be happy with that, but surely its common knowledge with those two, all the links etc...particularly Alderweireld?

Outside Watford stadium they have allotments, suggesting that they grow cabbage on them.
Big would be Capoue(6 ft 21⁄2) and small would be Stambouli(5 ft 11)
They are both French and both obviously play for the same club.

Vote in.

Loving the cryptic. Anderlect link tickles me but feels like a long shot.

I do wonder if Rob and A&C are just conducting a social experiment like the classic 'give monkeys with typewriters long enough and they'll develop the complete works of Shakespeare'. This is 'throw some random words into a forum and eventually someone will call the exact signings that pan out for the rest of the window'.

We're all just A&Cs playthings! *shudders*

That wouldn't be worth a cryptic though because there's already been stuff about them the last few days.

Not necessarily the both of them though, and it could be close.

Really hoping it's not Mitrovic though from what i've heard.

A&C was getting pretty aggravated at any mention of TA after JJ said it wasn't happening though and at the same time he was flaunting that he had a cryptic. Which makes me think that it isn't related to TA at all.

802 votes to 511 now - keep them coming!

Maybe we should have more voting challenges like this in future. Has the Greek referendum on leaving the Euro closed yet? If not, can anyone find a link? If we all vote for them to default on their debts, the value of the Euro will plummet and continentally based players will become much more affordable! Simples!

I still don't understand why the jump from cabbage to Germans?

Is it simply because it's the most obvious stereotype?

As per the other thread, "grocer" in German is "Kramer". There's different ways of looking at it:

- 'cabbage' is used due to the Kramer reference, which is 'Grocer' in german and who is German and therefore the (perhaps non-pc) kraut reference
- 'grocer' is used purely to fit in with the cabbage reference, with cabbage referring to some other aspect of the player(s)

Only reference I can find to cabbage is a guy called Víctor Chou, (chou being french for cabbage) who is an Asian-Spanish player who can't get a game in the Asian leagues, so I doubt that's anything to do with it!

Of course 'mon petit chou' would fit in to "one cabbage smaller than the other", but as it's French for "my little sweetheart", I can't see that one making sense in this context!

So imo 'cabbage' and grocer either means nothing at all, or it's a reference to Kramer.

I'd hope not. Two very mediocre journeymen

Am I missing something? Where's the link to Suarez in the cryptic other than his name is smaller and he plays for the same grocer? Smaller cabbage Brussels - logical. Other cabbage is therefore Suarez has no explained logic.

Why would that be top secret?
We've had plenty of news on Capoue to Watford.

Can you let us know what stage we're at with both players? Have we submitted bids, had them accepted, agreed terms, etc?

I seriously doubt he can - if it's cryptic, it means it's sensitive and to reveal anything could also reveal the source to the watching club.

The good thing about The Goat is he'll always reveal what cryptics meant once the situation has resolved itself, assuming it won't compromise the source. So we'll find out before long.

It must also mean that it is a player that hasn't been discussed

No i'm afraid not. Sometimes we can do that but this isn't one of them. I did make people aware of that and they were still gagging for it. We will give the solution eventually but not until the source says so.
Without actually giving it away can you give a simple yes or no to the question: has anyone successfully solved it yet? it would be infuriating to so many if it was a 'yes.'

Voted.
We're pulling away now, but like I said, there's a long way to go, and yeah, like I said, it's a marathon - not a sprint, and yeah, like I said we're just concentrating on the next vote, and yeah, like I said, we're just taking it one vote at a time, and yeah, like I said, we've put ourselves in a good position, and yeah, like I said, it's in our hands now and yeah, like I said, we'll just kep voting and working for each other, and yeah, like I said.
Thanks Gary.
