There's no way City have 18 million fans. They are a distant number two in a provincial city with 3 million inhabitants. Never previoulsy known to have much support outside a radius of 20 miles from South Manchester, so fuck knows how in the space of 2 to 3 years they have grown a fan base from 500,000 to 18m million.

Survey is utter bollocks and this was published in todays Times.

actually no 3. the greater manchester population is smaller than that of birmingham and its surrounding towns, the actual city of Manchester population wise isnt even 3rd, its lower

i suspect these are paper fans, not surprising, they are in the limelight now. i just guess it depends on how you define 'fan'

i suspect we both agree that over 90% of that figure arent real man city fans

I'm not sure about this list - why isn't Corinthians Paulista, with over 30m (possibly 50m) fans in this list ?

In the same fashion, I asked 1,000 children which manager was most likely to give them a packet of sweets and a cheeky smile.

Apparently 300million kids worldwide think Wenger is a fucking pdf file. Yep, he's an acrobat. Say no to abusive chants.

Exactly. Several Brazilian clubs should actually be making that list based solely on Brazilian supporters only, unless they've all started supporting Man City. But I suspect Brazil wasn't one of the 34 countries this 'leading sports market research' company polled.

cough Bullshit!! cough.

if chelsea and arsenal have more global fans than liverpool, then im a mexican (im not, by the way).

Also, can't remember where i heard it, but Benfica have an absolute massive global fan base, easily more than us and half the teams on that list of nonsense.

I'm sure some Chinese clubs have more then the 9m Newcastle do. As mentioned Brazil and I'd guess someone like Club America from Mexico would be up there too. Hell, I'd wager River Plate has more supporters then Newcastle and probably Spurs too.

Liverpool have been shit for years. Foreigners change football teams like their trousers. Why are you suprised Arsenal and Chelsea are smaller?

If you look at the number of spurs fans who 'support' spurs on facebook and on the fantasy premier league, we have nearly twice as many fans than the likes of City, Villa, Everton, etc. Obviously this isn't the best way of measuring the true number of supporters, but it's certainly better than some half arsed survey of 1000 people. We still have far less fans that Liverpool, Utd and Arsenal for obvious reasons, but taking into account our worldwide fanbase I think we're comfortably the 5th most supported club in the EPL.

I'm not. I'm surprised that the goons and Chelsea are bigger than Liverpool. I mean seriously, 113m arsenal? Dream on!

Haha, I just re-checked facebook and now city have more fans than us. Last time I checked this was about a year and a half, maybe 2 years ago and we had AT LEAST double their number of fans. It's quite a funny little insight into how fickle and impressionable some people are- I'm sure a similar number of Chelsea fans crawled out from the woodwork in the early Abramovich days.

Yeah I just checked this and was quite shocked.

As far as proper fans are concerned though I am sure we have way more.

City can't even fill their 50,000 seat stadium. We could fill that with just season ticket holders.

It is nonsense really.
Chelsea have twice as many fans as Liverpool? Anywhere around the world you see Liverpool shirts. Chelsea, i think i saw one once at Singapore airport.

That's my survey and its as reliable as theirs.

All of thse people thinking Liverpool are still massive I guess do not get to see much of the world.- Arsenal absolutely shit on them at the moment.

This is clearly just about brand awareness rather than actual fans
