what context? we were 5th no? hardly relegation fodder, we do have some decent players, we arent totally amateurs, yes we had just been pumped by Newcastle but sometimes those freak results happen (man utd for example), they don't represent a whole squad
See @Tucker and @rossdapep ’s great overviews but tbh I don’t think you’ll see the reality so each to their own.

Also other teams had games in hand so as Mason said we were in a ‘false position’

We also drew at home to 3rd placed man.u a few days after losing 6-1 to 4th placed Newcastle I’d say that’s quite a turnaround…

We nearly got a point away at anfield if it wasn’t for Lucas’s bad pass

Villa away was poor but they’re top2 for home form since Emery took over so very tricky game

We beat an in form palace side

I was at the Brentford game and for 45 mins we played really well then ran out of stream

The we just thrashed leeds 4-1 away and btw you say oh it was just ‘relegated leeds’ remind me what contes last game was again.. oh yea away to even worse relegated Southampton and we drew 3-3…

He’s done all of this with barely any time on the training pitch, with a ton of injuries and picking a team up who’s confidence was absolutely on the floor game after game.

So there is your context Mr I only look at win % and focus on the negatives 😉

Fine is people don’t think Mason is ready I totally 💯 get that opinion but what I won’t have is people not respecting what a great job he’s done or slag him off because they are frankly too lazy to look at or just don’t understand the context of the situation he took over and difficulty of fixtures etc.

Ryan Mason is one of our own, he bleeds Tottenham, he’s come back from a life threatening injury and he’s doing all he can to help the club, he cares about the future of the club and can clearly see what needs to be done like a die hard fan, I just think that needs to be respected that is all.

Just trying to shed a crumb of positivity and objectivity on an overall very difficult season.

For 45 minutes we played well. At half time Frank brought on damsgaard and completely changed the game. He saw tactically where the game was being lost and made a change.

Mason offered nothing in reply other than to bring on Lucas Moura out of sentiment with 30 minutes to go and we lost the game 3-1, the third goal epitomising the change that Frank made as Skipp had nobody to pass to.

He speaks so well and says the right things also has that self confidence but I just don’t know if he’s tactically or good enough at motivating to get there

It's perhaps too early to give him the main job but I do think that is good enough to have a crack at a lower league team.

I think he has possibly done everything he can at Spurs for the time being but not ruling him out for the future.

Yeh, but nobody seems to be looking at him why?
Swansea would be perfect for him when Martin gods

I think he will need to apply and sell his vision for jobs. I don't see clubs coming in for him just because he has worked with the Tottenham first team and youth team.

I get the impression he has been building up his experience at our club and is ready to branch out now. He has followed a number of managers and their philosophies and along with his own unique experience and skills he needs to carve out his next step I think away from the club.

I would be happy for him to stay if he wants to be part of the coaching team for the next manager but I think he has served his apprenticeship.

Well, we tried the 'cultural reset' with Jose and Conte, hoping it would make us winners.

Didn't work.

How would you like to see the cultural reset be? Because I see Mason as actually been a good candidate to reset things because he's seen everything!

He saw how it was under Poch so knows what went it to that working and then failing.
He saw what didn't;t work under Jose and Conte.

He may be the best person to actually make positive changes.

The actual performances and tactical battles are another thing admittedly.
JD or Ledley would be better cultural ambassadors than Mason if that’s the criterion we are seriously looking at. They are legends at the club from playing days and have seen everything. If a cultural reset is needed, they are best placed imo.

If we are looking at managerial performance and development, I think it would be very prudent for Mason to go to the lower leagues and start his journey as a #1. Be fascinating to see how he delivers over time

I don't fancy him for our next coach, but I'd happily see him take over from Levy. It's nice to hear someone talk with genuine feeling about the club and the direction it is heading as opposed to the sterile messages we get from Daniel COYS.

I guess people know he wants the Spurs job and he’s wait to know what happens here. You’re right though, Swans would be perfect for him.

I’ve seen people say Conte had no hope and wasn’t to blame because he’s got shit players.

Then judge Mason for not turning them into world beaters 45 games into a season.

I think Mason has done well given the context of this second stint in charge.

I think the almost chip on his shoulder about being a young manager and not wanted by a section of fans would drive him to push himself and the squad to a reasonable performance of top 6 should he be given the opportunity.

The reality is we need incomings and outgoings this summer to give anyone the chance to do well.

I’d like to keep him at the club in a coaching capacity. I thought he talked very well yesterday and it’s clear he has a real and more importantly ‘genuine ‘ affection for the club , he gets the issues and knows what needs to be done but ultimately Levy needs to act on Masons advice .

If he's happy remaining just a part of the coaching setup, yes. If he wants to be head coach one day then now could be a good time to go off and learn his chops somewhere. I love his ambition and think that if he wants to realise it then it probably won't happen in the background at Spurs.

Guess i just dont like to indulge in mediocrity and not happy with 2 wins in 6, football is all about results; nothing simplistic about that, and even tactically I have seen mason completely schooled by emery and frank, whats narrowmind about wanting better?
I think mason can be a decent coach but needs to go a learn the trade, way off being ready for a top job

I think Pep could have come in and maybe won 3 games and then been described as mediocre too. I don’t know about you but I thought we were going to get thumped by both Utd and Liverpool. Didn’t think we had any chance at all in either game. To take a side that was so lacking in confidence and get some sort of tune out of them in those games was definitely not mediocre.

What you seem to be hoping for is a magician. Do you think there is anyone on the planet that could have come in a turned out defence into water-tight world beaters?

I get that you’d want results against Burnley and Villa and it was disappointing not to win those games. I thought the first 45 minutes against Brentford was some of the best football we’d seen all season. You could see tactical work that had been done and players buying into what he wanted to do. The second half we struggled to press or play at the same intensity and then our defence crumbled.

I like that he has given Bissouma freedom (even if he massively faded against Brentford - understandably). I like that he figured a way to get Royal and Porro performing together. I like that he tried Deki in the middle and there were moments where that worked really well. I like that he realized Son couldn’t play with his back to goal. I like that he dropped Dier. I like that he played the academy players in the last game and gave that whole group a sense that they can make a squad and be involved if they perform. I like that he was able to motivate comebacks. I like that he comes across well with the media and that he clearly understands the club and isn’t afraid to talk about the issues.

Listen to the rumblings coming from the players, they all seem to believe in him as a coach. Listen to some of what Alisdair Gold reported about how he has transformed a lot of the club behind the scenes in just a few weeks to set things up for the new coach.

Was he perfect? of course not. Did he do a mediocre job? Not for me, I think he was excellent.
