I don't see us getting this one over the line personally, but after a brief chat this morning I'm told this one isn't just paper talk.

Hopefully Poch can convince him..... and maybe we can throw in Sissoko :ROFLMAO:

I don't think it's even a case of managers convincing players these days. Not like when Clough or Venables would turn up at their house and turn on the charm, not leaving til they signed. Unless you pay the wages, you don't even get to break bread with the player.

When we signed Eriksen it was allowed to happen because the player himself didn't want go for just the money. He wanted to part of the first team every week and not just be another mercenary (like at Man City)

If we're going to sign players like Lemar then we need them to have the same attitude as Eriksen or we've got no chance of signing them.

Plus you can't buy that kind of mentality (if you know what I mean) too many go for the money.

I think it is important factor who your next manager gonna be and how is he going to utilize your talents as well as rotation among the first eleven. Of course what is the club ambition etc.... depending on who offers more money a player can choose shit load and sits on the bench or take a lower pay and possibly squeeze into staring eleven.

So a lot of other deciding factor but I presume we are waiting for big spenders to finish their shopping before we begin.

I know it's not our 'fault' because other clubs simply have more money than us but the fact we rarely sign our top targets really bugs me.
Apparently there's only 9 other clubs in the world that "simply have more money than us" so I tend to share your frustration, mate! I really think it's time to bury the myth that we don't have the finances to attract a top young talent like Lemar, and really make a statement of intent this summer. We're a Champions League club; let's look to recruit like one.

Wasn't that club valuation, rather than how much money they can spend on players.

I think that's a significant over simplification of the financial realities. And look at just how much in top line revenue some of those clubs make, and none of them are building massive new stadiums.

We'd all love us to get all the players we want, but I think a sensible approach to player purchases has worked well of late, and I think we have to back the management and chairman given the recent record (Sissoko aside).

All that being said, I'd love us to get this guy

Valuation of club does not equal spending power.

well the good news is JJ hasn't shot this link down

yet

he definitely looked a talent in our 2 matches

Well I don't usually care about a rating, but when JJ agrees with one, it makes me feel good.

Though it does depend on what line out of the 3 he agrees with(y)

Valuation of club does not equal spending power.
Are you claiming there isn't any sort if correlation between the two? And why do you always sneer at anyone who dares to suggest that we spend decent money on a player that might improve us? We're not some impoverished club, and going balls-out for a talent like Lemar really isn't going to bankrupt us. We're a Champions League Club, and I'd love to see us show some real intent in the transfer market this summer. Why is that so provocative to you?

Of course there is somewhat of a correlation but tiger666 is absolutely correct in the sense that the valuation of a club is not equal to spending power :)

Calm your tits, all I said was valuation of the club does not equal spending power.

What we need to do is stop spreading our funds over multiple investments and use that cash to keep our best players. Sissoko was not needed and effectively jizzed away last years CL money.

But the financial profile of the club is such that we have the power to spend £800 million on a new stadium so his inference that our spending power is limited doesn't really stand up to scrutiny does it?
