Thomas Lemar: Tottenham offered chance to sign Atletico Madrid outcast on loan this month

French international is keen to move in January after falling out of favour under Diego Simeone

Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a loan approach for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar with a €60m option-to-buy.

The Independent understands a loan fee of around €6m is being touted to bring the French international to north London, with Lemar keen to move in January after falling out of favour under Diego Simeone.

Spurs are just one of several top European clubs weighing up a move for the 24-year-old, with Arsenal also monitoring Lemar’s situation.

Lemar, who came close to joining Arsenal in the summer of 2017, has scored just three goals in 64 appearances since joining Atletico from Monaco for £52.7m.

Atletico manager Diego Simeone has made little effort to quell speculation that Lemar, who is keen to cement his place in France’s Euro 2020 squad, could leave the club in January and admitted the winger has failed to “live up to expectations”.

Never progressed since leaving Monaco. His career is very similar to his ex team mate's (Bakayoko). I was all for this before but I just dont think he would be a good fit for us.

Being linked with a few left-footed attacking mids it seems. Lemar and Ziyech links have just appeared.

Lol. Atletico are off their tits if they think they're going to recoup anything like the £60 million they dropped on him.

Transfermarkt have his current market value at £27 million. Given the fact that he's only managed 3 goals and 6 assists in 64 appearances for Atletico, you'd have to suggest that's far more realistic.

If we're going for a winger type, I'll nail my allegiance to Ziyech thanks all the same.

We were all desperate for him when he was leaving Monaco. Hasn't really progressed for him in Spain. If ever there's a deal like this floating about its in January. Crazy figures though.

And done nothing since. Which is why he isn't worth anywhere near that now.

Yep, he reminds me of Moura... he’s too quick for this own good, meaning he gets his legs all tangled up and loses the ball lol

He’s still a very good player but you want more for the money being quoted.

From what I've seen of him (youtube highlights lol), he seems to have a better football brain than Moura.

Could be worth it on loan, take a chance on distressed asset. He's injured right now though and has been poor at Atletico, though I always thought that was a strange tactical move for him. Have a feeling there's not much in this link besides Atletico offering him around.

He absolutely ruined us playing for Monaco in the CL a few years back. However since going to At. Madrid he has regressed like many of the players that moved on from that talented Monaco team.

I wouldn’t be unhappy to take him on loan. Reckon if (big if) he can regain some form he’d be a better option than Lucas on the wing. I’d prefer Ziyech though.

Strange that we’re not being linked with any DMs - arguably our greatest need.

Not impossible he'll regain some form - Athletico under Simeone are very defensive with counter - he might thrive under more expansive play - just need to look at Depay and Coutinho who are both smashing it after moves.
