Not impossible he'll regain some form - Athletico under Simeone are very defensive with counter - he might thrive under more expansive play - just need to look at Depay and Coutinho who are both smashing it after moves.

Agreed. I thought it was an odd move for him when he joined Atlético. Doesn’t suit their style.

Sacramento coached him at Monaco the year they won the league? Maybe he could get him going again! Loan with option to buy I’m not overly against it

He could regain his form, and there is definetly a player in there. But, both Depay and Coutinho were far more proven than Lemar, and neither left teams which played defensively on the counter. I don't buy the idea that Lemar is a bad fit for Atletico. On paper it makes a lot of sense. He has pace but also technical ability. Atletico have always liked these players, that you can just hand the ball to on the counter who think and act quickly. In theory he should be a good fit. For what it's worth Atletico have been trying to change their style a little this season, but its not really worked.

In any case, for a good price he wouldn't be a bad player to put a punt on but he is not a priority and his stock is low for a reason. Lemar has only had one very good season of football and he is 24. He hasn't moved on, he hasn't developed and thats basically all there is.

Just out of interest - was Campos at Monaco and involved with the discovery of Lemar? (if we're linking all things together?)

I think IF we are looking to move on from Lucas, Lemar could be an option. He undoubtedly has the talent, but has found it tough the last couple of years. He has still only turned 24 relatively recently though, so there is the chance to turn it around and develop. It would have to be for what would be considered a bargain price, which given what was originally paid and what it seems like they want, I dont think will be the case. Maybe we could test the water with a loan with option to buy. Still less than 60 would be needed there though.

One thing is for sure, if this does happen, I will watch his 2017 Monaco YouTube clips and 100% convince myself that's the player we're getting.

One thing I noticed on transfermarkt is that he's basically been used as a sub mostly this season and that could be due to 2 x hamstring injuries he had earlier in the year. He now has a 'muscular injury' so I wonder what is going on there rather than the line that he's not been pulling up any trees at Atletico this season.

Sounds like he’ll fit right in.

These kind of deals do pop up in January and should definitely be looked at. More may emerge before the end of the window so I suspect it pays not to be too hasty.

Is his agent Jorge Mendes?

If so, I fully expect us to be linked with the majority of his clients.

I just said in the HZ thread that he was a pain against us last year, but I was at the Wembley CL game against Monaco a few years back and Lemar was a right pain that night. We couldn’t get near him.

He was excellent for Monaco and was being linked with all the top clubs. Very nearly joined Liverpool IIRC. In the end he went to Atletico, which I always thought was a strange move. Simeone is very much a defensive coach and it has been suggested that he's not known how to get the best out of him.

Not suggesting we should sign him but I wouldn't write off his talent based on a failed move to Spain. As we well know, not every league works for every player. Had he come to the Prem instead I'd imagine he'd have done far better.

If he can regain his form, he'd be perfect on the LW position, which would allow Son to play more centrally, or at least give us decent options to rotate and not dip in quality
