Three players who could improve Tottenham Hotspur

It’s been mostly a very good season for Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur, but home defeats to Stoke City and Wolverhampton Wanderers suggest that there is still a bit of work to be done. Sport.co.uk makes a few suggestions…

Name: Carlton Cole
Club: West Ham United
Position: Center forward
Age: 26
Estimated value: £15m
On the face of it, Spurs have one of the strongest strike forces in the league. But Robbie Keane has not looked like the same player since returning from Liverpool, Roman Pavlyuchenko is effectively frozen out and Peter Crouch, although a regular goalscorer, plays too far up the pitch to contribute sufficiently to Spurs’ passing game. Cole also offers goals and aerial threat but he also leads the line well, which could see him linking up with Jermaine Defoe to blistering effect.

Name: Gael Givet
Club: Blackburn Rovers
Position: Centre-back/left-back
Age: 28
Estimated value: £8m
One of the few shining lights at Blackburn this season, the French defender only made his move to Ewood Park permanent in the summer but must already be wondering what on earth he’s let himself in for. He can perform admirably in two positions: one in which he would provide invaluable cover for the ever-crocked Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate, and one in which he would represent an improvement on Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Gareth Bale.

Name: Scott Parker
Club: West Ham United
Position: Central midfielder
Age: 29
Estimated value: £10m
Wilson Palacios and Tom Huddlestone have linked up well in the middle for Spurs this season but, should the former pick up an injury, Spurs would lose vital dynamism in a crucial area of the pitch. Huddlestone and Jermaine Jenas err on the side of languid so Parker’s all-action style would cover the bases to keep the first XI strong throughout a whole campaign.

If we splashed out 33 million on three players who wouldnt even necessarily be starters for us, i wouldn''t be happy.

£15m for Carlton Cole?!

Three players that would perhaps improve the squad, but couldnt see any of them being 1st choice. We should only consider bringing players that are better than the current player in that position. With the exception of perhaps a holding midfielder as we really do have very little cover for Wilson.

I think Cole and Parker (providing they could maintain fitness) would be good quality additions to a number of sides. Cole has been West Hams only point of effective attack IMHO for most of this season.

Whilst i think we need to evaluate our options at the back and really look at what a) our strongest back line is and b) if that back line will be fit regularly - if not who is the assigned cover. I do not feel this is a key area for improvement. I also massively disagree with the point that Givet would represent an improvement on BAE and Bale. BAE playing very well and being a very solid player for us and Bale being a player i think we need to start showing a lot of faith in if we're going to see some of his vast promise realised.

Only Scott Parker would do. But £10 m is way to much. £6 m is more realistic in my ears. I for one really rate Scott Parker - great work rate, good passer and lots of Premiership experience.

I like Cole and Parker and they might get into the 11 but I echo what other have said, that's a large sum for no definately improving the first team. Obviously it depends who's available but I think we'd be better buying one quality players than adding those three.

Whole article is discredited after suggesting that Givet is a better left-back than BAE, regardless of what other merits he might be able to bring to our squad. Givet's okay, but nowhere near as good a left-back as BAE.

Givet is awful, he regulary gets turned inside out.

Parker is shining in a medicore team, just like he did at Charlton, when he played at Chelsea he was crap and when playing at Newcastle with the likes of Butt and Duff he was the crappest. He's not good enough

Carlton Cole is a risk, he's been around for many years and only hit form.

None of these would improve Spurs and would just be squad players

Parker - yes as things stand, but not if we're getting Sandro.

Cole - no thanks. We need one striker who will be truly exciting. Our next Berbatov
Givet - no thanks. He simply isn't good enough.

Givet an improvement on Ekotto?

What's this guy been smoking.

As for Mexes... really? Have you watched him.. ever? He's awful, a prima dona, completely overrated. Would not touch him with Wengers beanbag!

Isnt that the same Givet that got absolutely r*ped when we played against them? He is absolutely pony and if we spent 8m on him then I would seriously doubt HR's Mental Health haha!

Parker would be a good signing but only at 6m or less as he is injured an awful lot and also wouldnt be guaranteed a starting place!

Givet, no thank you.

Cole, I'm 50-50 on although I think there are far better we could get.

Parker, I probably would be quite in favour of as would slot in quite nicely alongside Palacios.

Bit worried about his injury record though.

I think we should sign Kairloppiodoupplos. Dan Ashcroft and B&K recommended him to me.
