TOTTENHAM'S new technical director Tim Sherwood has told NewsAtDen that Millwall target Harry Kane will not be available for loan next season.
Boss Kenny Jackett had been hoping to re-sign the Spurs youngster after he scored nine goals in 27 appearances to help steer the Lions to safety in the Championship last year.
But in an exclusive interview, Sherwood revealed that the 18-year-old will feature in first-team affairs at White Hart Lane under new manager André Villas Boas.
"We don't think there's any value in loaning Harry out to the Championship again," he said. "He's ticked that box.
"He may need a few more games if he's not in the frame at Tottenham, but he's going to be given every opportunity to prove himself to the new manager. If the manager decides he's not ready, that would be the only time we would consider loaning him out.
"But as we stand, we're not looking to loan him."
The Lions have benefited in recent years from a healthy relationship with Spurs, with the likes of Kane, Jon Obika, Andros Townsend and Ryan Mason all spending time at The Den as part of their development.
But Sherwood suggested there could be a change of policy under former Chelsea boss Villas Boas.
He said: "I know Kenny Jackett because we played together at Watford, so there's a connection there. Millwall is a good move for our young boys because it gives them experience and it's local.
"Sometimes it works out, as with Kane, but sometimes it doesn't, as with Mason.
"I will sit down with the new manager and talk in more depth about his philosophy on loaning younger players.
"But I think there might be a chance of tact, because we don't really learn anything from sending players to the Championship for a second time."

Sounds good and promising and as said before you want to bring these players through as fast as possible so they don't stall but without rushing them too much

We rate him highly, I know that. The reason that we didn't sign Connor Wickham was because of our hopes for him - if ryan pops in here he can confirm that.

I like Kane. I really hope he makes it. When was the last time we had a proper homegrown striker?

I have to agree, he has a lot of promise and I reckon he should be training and working along side the first team as much as possible.

Interesting, good find Q8y.

In my thread on (Another) Interesting Article on AVB, before seeing this, I have noted that AVB likes his teams to get plenty of crosses in and windered whether we could keep hold of Kane and use him as an option next season - surely he would benefit from a bombardment of crosses, and we need strikers with his capabilities to really take advantage of the added service.

Smacks of Europa League appearances to me.

Look forward to seeing how he's progressed.

I think he's a promising young player.

Made me laugh when some on here were dismissing his chances to even make it as a professional in the game after watching him in just 1 game.

Madness I tell thee.

That was after he'd already impressed in league 1, and people were saying he wouldn't make it in league 1.

Too few people follow the loanwatch forum.

Also isn't be only 18 or something!! I can't believe people were writing him off after a few games last season. It's embarrassing really.

Indeed, loan him to a premiership club the way Man U did with Welbeck, think Fulham or Reading would suit, maybe Southampton

As I said, above, I would be quite interested he would do, as cover (of course) if AVB puts emphasis on crossing.

Too few people follow the loanwatch forum.

Too many people don't watch enough football.

Too many people think they are Bobby Robson latest prodigy scout.

Too many people write off 18 year olds before they've kicked a ball.

Too many people forget that youngsters need TIME to develop.

It was ridiculous that people slagged him off. He was shoved into a team of misfits that hadn't played together and was stuck up front with Pav who decided to hit the ball as soon as he got it.

He's excelled in two loan spells now, judge him after he gets a run of games in the first team.
