Yeah, watched him live vs PAOK or w/e they were called and he was slow, weak and his movement was terrible.

Gotta give him a chance though.

I'm glad Sherwood mentioned Mason too, even if only in passing.

"Sometimes it works out, as with Kane, but sometimes it doesn't, as with Mason."

Ryan Mason looked the standout player in our Academy 3 years ago, and has had bad luck with injuries etc since. He's also less physically strong than Harry Kane, being built like a young Modric, but technically gifted.

Strangely enough, Mason may be a better fit for AVB's system than Kane, because I believe Kane played more as an attacking midfielder for Milwall, whereas Mason can play as a wide striker or wide AM.

Mason had a phenomenal goalscoring record in our Academy, and like Kane is an intelligent player, who reads the game well.

Ultimately, I hope both get a proper chance in pre-season to see if they're ready to be part of our first team squad.

But I think there might be a chance of tact, because we don't really learn anything from sending players to the Championship for a second time."

Found this bit interesting, a bit of a slap in the face to Harry and his policy of having the youngsters constantly out on loan

Sherwood has a very bad opinion here, Kane could learn how to play a full season in professional football! Getting ready for a game every few days, learning how to manage himself, what preparation works and doesn't. That would help his development, rather than rotting until xmas, only getting a Europa League game now and then.

You want players playing regurlarly so they get into that mode early into their career, where they are a first team footballer, rather than making the bench for a PL team and occasionally getting on the pitch. Stops their development.

Kane does not impress me but it's not me he needs to impress. I worry more about Sherwood believing Kane has the goods.

I guess you watching him a few times on the telebox (or even live) is comparable to Sherwood watching him everyday in training?

He hasn't impressed me either but then I'm not a football coach and don't really know what I'm talking about!

Would love him to make it with us but would be very, very surprised if he did.

IMO there's a lack of distinction on this site at times between where Kane is currently in his development and where he may be in the future.

I'd also very much like to see Kane develop and become a great player for us, who wouldn't? But regularly reading on here 'i'd be surprised if he makes it with us' / 'he'll never cut it for Spurs' etc. etc. seems a bit of a harsh and rash judgement of his abilities at this stage in his career to me.

For his age he's had a couple of very good loan spells in competative leagues, where as a striker he's delivered the goods - on a lot of occasions, out performing some far more seasoned professionals. Whilst i don't see that as a reason to shout from the rooftops that our Harry Kane is the new Pele, I do see it as being hugely positive and as long as he keeps progressing at the same rate - I see absolutely no reason why he wouldn't/couldn't be a success at Spurs.

Too many people don't watch enough football.

Too many people think they are Bobby Robson latest prodigy scout.

Too many people write off 18 year olds before they've kicked a ball.

Too many people forget that youngsters need TIME to develop.

agree and Too many will ignore your post

I remember watching a training video (which i dont think had been cut or edited) and this lad finished everything. Hes certainly got to improve in a lot of areas but a lot can change for a young boy of 17/18 which was when we first got a look at him really. Whats the harm sticking him on the bench and giving him 10 minutes with class players here n there if we have a lead which we look like keeping.

I've noticed for England he gets listed as a midfielder and in the Europa games he played he seemed to drop deeper to show for the ball rather than sticking to the shoulder of the last man, people talk about strength and speed but in some roles its irrelevant, maybe we just believe he is an out and out goalscorer because of his academy record?

Sherwood is saying that as Kane has already been on loan to lower division clubs, he does not think it would benefit him to go out on loan to lower league clubs again. He is saying he has a real chance of making appearances in the first team (the hint is in the Europas), and if that doesn't work out (the Europas and maybe more) then they could arrange a loan for him - probably at Christmas. My guess would be that in arranging a loan for him at Christmas, they would try to get him in an EPL club - the curve of development that has so benefitted Walker, Caulker and Naughton recently. But, just to be clear - he isn't saying he will definitely only play in Europa games, he is liable to feature in all cup games, and, my guess, on the bench in the EPL as well.

As stated above, and in another thread, AVB really likes crosses to be put into the box - statistically, a very hogh portion. We have the players who are good with the crossing in, what we need are players who are good with the being in the box and heading the ball (into the net, preferably) bit. My guess is that Sherwood has already told AVB that Kaney is likely to be a real good asset to have, and that he is likely to be used. I could be wrong, though.

Well if he gets 500 minutes of football in the next six months for any premier league team, which is an optimistic prediction, then thats not as good as the 2 thousand he could acquire in the championship in the same time frame. Walker, Naughton and Caulker were FAR different, they were already proven, Kane isn't. So i'll be shocked if any Premier League manager will take Kane on loan and play him regularly. Not going to happen.

A striker needs games, he needs to be getting the games in and learning how to play football. Theres no way Kane plays significant minutes in the premier league for anyone, the only chance he has is our 7 or 8 cup games in the next 6 months. Which will be against similar level to Championship opposition.

Needs to be loaned out, will get 4 times as much football for Millwall than he would anywhere else and funnily enough footballers need to play football.

If they haven't kicked a ball before by the time they're 18 I don't think they've much of a chance ;)

TBF, we didn't loan many to the Championship more than once. Usually we increase the level of competition we loan them out to. Sherwood even said if Kane's not in AVB's immediate plans he'll loan him out, and I can't see Premiership teams taking him on loan with his limited first team experience, so it's more than likely he'll end up in the Championship again at some stage this season.
