been linked very heavily in the last 12 months or so as Harry's successor, being groomed to take over the job apparently when Harry either gets banged up or leaves to take over the England job. Very close to both Harry and Levy.

Personally I like Sherwood, speaks a lot of sense , comes across very well, is a proven Premiership winner and leader and doing well with the youth team. I would welcome him as Harry's successor.

Yes inexperience is an issue but other major clubs have successfully promoted and nurtured from within so why not us also

Really hard one to call. As a coach and manager he has nothing for us to judge him on. Could be fantastic, could be shit ?

Not sure we would make him manager.

I could see us bringing in someone else and making Sherwood their number 2.
Would give him more experiences and we wouldn't be just throwing him in the deep end

I hope not, we need to bring in a proven manager if Harry does leave.

Ancelloti should be the main candidate when Harry does go (unless Mourinho is out of a job ). In fact I would sooner we gambled on Poyet than promoted Sherwood or worse still got Moyes

I really can't see us 'doing a Shearer', let alone with someone who wasn't a very good/popular player for us.

If we go down the boot-room approach (which we shouldn't, because it's really a bad idea), Houghton and Poyet are surely far far better qualified. Or even Inglethorpe, who has some (and successful) managerial experience.

I know what you mean and that is why I think Levy will maybe bring a Sporting Director in and have Sherwood as Head Coach.

Someone with experience but who doesn't want to take the day to day training with the players, like Hiddink or Van Gaal

Didn't Chelsea have Hoddle, Gullit, Villa before they won the lottery?

Probably too early for him and he needs some managerial experience first.

I think if/when Harry does go off to manage the national team he might take Sherwood with him to look after the youth development stuff at the FA.

Better to bring in his own man i.e. Ray Wilkins.

Liverpool did it for years before Houllier era, Ajax are another off the top of my head.

Hoddle had been Swindon manager and had done an excellent job.

All 3 were player managers and also world-class players. Not Tim 'Deadwood'.

Poyet with Sherwood number 2? Could work. Young, energetic and Poyet knows how he wants his teams to play. Doing well at Brighton. Could be a big manager in years to come.

wee we did it once with Keith Burkinshaw and that did not work out so badly...

But if Sherwood is being groomed for anything I suspect it is the Director of Football role.

Massive risk. No for me. Experience counts.

Not for me, the guy showed his true colours when he was playing and regularly spoke out against the club after he left. Always struck me as a very bitter person and not level headed enough for the pressures of management.

If we were to recruit from within (which, like others have said I wouldn't) why not go for somebody like Clive Allen who has shown a lot more promise than Sherwood

Personally I can't see Levy doing that unless the Ramos saga has seriously altered his view of overseas managers.
