wee we did it once with Keith Burkinshaw and that did not work out so badly...

But if Sherwood is being groomed for anything I suspect it is the Director of Football role.

We did yes, but many many years ago and Football has changed since those days, unfortunately the bigger clubs aren't prepared to take risks on the Sherwood types (managers with no experience) as fans want instant success.

Poyet is a better option, but even he does not have the right experience at the top level.

Managing Brighton in the championship is completely different to taking on the top 4 and the rest of europe. Redknapp has donkeys years of experience in the PL.

We need a similar manager with a great deal of experience that plays attacking football. We could always get Villas Boas when he gets the sack. Or Ancelotti even though he isnt an attacking manager.

been linked very heavily in the last 12 months or so as Harry's successor, being groomed to take over the job apparently when Harry either gets banged up or leaves to take over the England job. Very close to both Harry and Levy.

Personally I like Sherwood, speaks a lot of sense , comes across very well, is a proven Premiership winner and leader and doing well with the youth team. I would welcome him as Harry's successor.

Yes inexperience is an issue but other major clubs have successfully promoted and nurtured from within so why not us also

By who exactly?

So shall we just go for any ex-chelsea manager then? that seems to be the common census. But as mentioned Sherwood is getting rave reviews by everyone associated with the club. Poyet had the same when he was at swindon and leeds with wise.
People mentioning Poyet, 1. Would he want to come back after the Ramos fiasco? 2. If he was to come would he not want to bring Tarrico with him?

Would love to see Jose Mourinho but can never see that happening.

You need an experienced manager at a club like ours, not a rookie.

David Moyes certainly offered stability at Everton and always did well transferwise.

Martin O'Neill is still without a job too isn't he? Love him or hate him, he delivered the goods at villa.

I very much doubt Roberto Martinez is the right man though, mainly defensive-wise.

Ancelotti would be a passenger imo.

for us to excel and be a consistent top 4 team the type of players we would have to attract will look at the manager and his record. sherwood would not attract the snijders, rossis of the world wheras ancelloti and jose would

If we can't get an Ancelotti or a Mourinho, then I'd like Moyes, Hughes, Poyet or maybe Martinez. That said if we got Sherwood it would be a risk but I wouldn't be too unhappy.

Not sure on Moyes. I reckon he's good at Everton's level but would he be able to step up?

Hughes has been okay wherever he's gone but hardly spectacular. Wouldn't be on my list for a long term manager.

Martinez? I don't know. Would he be able to make that step up? Same issue with SuperGus.

But, in the event that we can't get a 'big name' these are the people we'll be looking at and I don't know if they offer alot more than someone like Sherwood.

I tell you what, Hoddle would love to have our squad at his disposal using his 352 formation!

good point. I think you can rank the candidates in 3 categories really:

1) high profile managers from abroad: Ancelotti, Van Gaal... We've went for big names before (santini, ramos) and we all know that wasn't exactly succesful was it?

2) experienced PL managers: Moyes, Martin O'Neill, Martinez, Coyle. I am fairly sure someone like moyes or o'neill would make us a hard nut to crack.

3) the young guns with club connections: Sherwood, Poyet etc.

There's no substitute for experience imo. Harry showed that by coming in, steadying the ship and moving us forward. If we want to build on his foundations, a manager from categories 2 or 3 would be recommended. Proven PL managers are the best bet for me.

Being a good no. 2 (well I guess Bond is no. 2, Jordan no 3 and Tim no 4 then) doesn't make you a good manager - there are plenty of examples of that from the past.
I don't think anyone on this board (I may be wrong) who know Sherwood well enough to clearly judge whether he could be the right man for the job....but my intuitive feeling is that I'd rather have another more experienced manager to eventually replace Harry.

Oyster-Eyes if we want an Everton-style borefest. City fans hated Sparky, thought he was a clueless idiot. Poyet's far too in with Kemsley, 'Mr Fixit' Jimenez and Wise, as well as being tainted by association with Juanque.

What have Jimmy Anderson, Bill Nicholson, Keith Burkinshaw, Peter Shreeve and Martin Jol got in common?

He could bring stability and if we think he is good enough, then he is good enough. What happens with the Next Gen thing could dictate his future. Still think Ancellotti should be first choice, but if not it would not be the worst idea.

Martinez is not a great manager, but knows how to speak well. IMO since taking over Wigan he has bought pretty poorly and been involved in a relegation scrap each season. Playes pretty football though. Moyes and O'Niell are reasonable candidates but like to play poor football. Hughes would probably be a safe pair of hands, for a season or so....

Support him if he's given the job,
no one here have a clue about his qualities and how he'll do.
Neither Guardiola or VIllas Boas would came through at Tottenham,
as supporters demand a name. Just let those in charge make the decision,
and be behind them 100%. Results will show if it was a good appointment or not.

Martinez for me definitely. Sherwood as a number two to him would be a nice set up maybe.

I would give serious consideration to Moyes as well, could be very interesting to see how he does with some resources at his disposal.

However he may need to adjust his 'style'.

First of all he's managing Wigan, and secondaly he has got them playing some lovely football at times. I think those ideas and imagination would be welcomed here with some genuine quality at his disposal.

Yes he's inexperienced but certainly has a lot more experience than Tim Sherwood in his own right, albeit not directly at Tottenham if Sherwood is being groomed.

Interesting choice could be Brendan Rodgers.

Big club experience and successful with a smaller one. 'modern' manager able to get his side playing well.

We've had enough problems scoring goals in recent times
